Aight folks...we went out an adopted the "Dutch John" trail at URE. There is a trail sign that they added our name too along with the CORE group. We will lose this trail if we cant continue to provide volunteers/hours from our club. The 1st year everyone was on board and jumped at the chance to be there and help...I have seen this dwindle to almost nothing.

I do not expect the same people to be there every weekend they have a work day, nor do I need everyone to expect me to be there for those same weekends. I do what I can, when I can...but it is expensive for me to drive the bronco 5hrs, stay a night, and drive back. We have a lot of members-mainly in NC that could easily volunteer. I dont mean the "Hopman's,Clay's,Bart's,Jayt's"...these folks attend as often as they can-which im very thankful!

We have been a long running club by now, but we are as unorganized as they come-surely this mainly falls on my part. But we chose to not be "that overly controlling group" we all were once a member of...for me this was a local club w/Pres/VP/Tr/etc. it was more business than fun. Im sure we still dont want anything like this...but at this point Im lost as to what we need to do.

....bottom line

we need more volunteers for these upcoming work days. you do not have to have a "bronco" or another offroad vehicle for that matter. the buddy system works awesome, catch a ride with someone in their rig. everyone on a workday is there for one reason...helping the forrest group see that these trails are maintained and open for all to enjoy.

This is the letter forwarded to me from JayT

Quote:Hi Everyone - I've listed the 2013 work weekend schedule dates and the first
thing to note is that the January & February dates are on the 4th Saturdaysof the month to avoid holiday weekends. The rest are the 3rd Saturdays ofthe month. I've also attached copies of the Trail Adoption Agreements withsome edits and the Volunteer Services Agreement for Natural ResourcesAgencies. Please have the representative of your club fill these out, senda current club roster and send signed copies to me at the address listedbelow. I'll then have Deborah Walker, the District Ranger sign them andsend you copies back. If you're a club that has not adopted a trail herebefore and are interested in doing so please contact me via email or phoneand we can go over what trails you might be interested in. Work weekends: January 26, February 23, March 16, April 20, May 18, June 15,July 20, Aug 17, Sept 21, Oct 19, and Nov 16. I've attached the current list of trail adoptees and the club or clubs thathave adopted them. If this information is incorrect please contact me withthe correct information. Thank you and I appreciate all of yourvolunteering in the past & look forward to many more hours working together. If you have received this message and are not interested in volunteering onthe Uwharrie National Forest please send me an email with your name & emailaddress and I will make sure to take you off of the mailing list. Thankyou. Bye - Terry

If you're a proud member, help us out. Do dont even have to like URE, but you cant argue with the effort...I think its very important. Thanks guys...sorry so long winded.
I am always down for an excuse to go up to URE with or without my POS. Let's do it!
Thanks for posting this up Chuck. I agree that trail maintenance is very important, as this is the ONLY 'publically owned' trail in the carolinas.

FYI, I will be at URE for this coming work day (Jan 26). I will have an open seat if anyone needs to ride along to get to our trail.
I'm sure I too am to blame for not being around to help anymore. My move to FL has hurt our orginization some but now that things are setteling down for me I will be able to help from a distance as much as I can. I cant make many events for a while but we need to log the time every time some of our club goes to URE. Stop by and get trash bags from Jan at the host camper. Every little bit helps. If even once some of us can make a work weekend it would go a long way to keep this great place open.
back to the top...this is a open discussion, for any members of this forum...cmon guys
this is sad.
Please, People, Speak up! We as a club adopted this trail and its our name out there. We need your help to keep this going. If you can make it out even one day to help us work on the trail PLEASE speak up!
March 16th is looking best for me. April 20th a second maybe........ Wish I could make Jan 26th with ya Charles bit my obligations just got REAL thick!
thats awesome Biff...any help is important.

just a tidbit...

Janet said the forestry service get so many dollars per hour from every volunteer. less say its $20 per/hr...and 13 ppl work 8 hrs on a sat,

that could earned them just over $2000 back for next years budget. the equipment, tools, and park are very dependent on these funds.

...also anyone wanting to help out...can see janet(site 28...i think) and tell her your there to do some trail cleaning. give her the club name(cb4x4), and she'll give you a bag and a free pass. all you have to do is sign a list so she can show where the passes are going.
I was looking on NC4x4 and came across this bit of info posted by the URE off road training center. Attached to it was a YEARLY adopt-a-trail form (who knew?). Have we committed to 2013 and Dutch John? I can commit to 3 work days this year, including the one coming up Jan 26. We would need to commit to 4 as a club per year. Can we do it??? Have we already said we would??? Attached message and link follows:

"CLUBS:The USFS wants more involvement from the Adopt-a-Trail agreement signers.

I’ve attached the current list of trail adoptees and the club or clubs that have adopted them. If this information is incorrect please contact TSavery@fs.fed.us or 910-576-6391 with the correct information. Also attached adopt-a-trail agreements (Please read what your club has signed and agreed to do). Also attached is the volunteer form for individuals or groups.

Things are getting more organized and you will see some positive changes with organization soon. Unfortunately that means more forms (paperwork) sometimes

It would benefit Uwharrie if the Clubs would take more ownership. Some Clubs are out there every month. Some that have adopted trails are not. The FS wants to make it clear that the Adopt-a-Trail clubs don't have to just come to the scheduled 3rd weekend workdays. The hope is the Adopt-a-Trail clubs would work directly with the FS themselves and setup there own workdays!! Whenever they want to."
