My stock lighter died a few months back and someone was kind enough to send me a new one. Unfortunately, it died a few weeks later. The elements on these are either corroded or broken, rendering them useless.
Sure, I could buy a cheap replacement from the parts store, but it won't look the same. Alternatively, I can spend about $28.00 for a replacement replica from a handful of vendors, but I am a cheap-ass so that isn't going to happen.
All we need to do is swap the element from a working lighter to the stock lighter.
Went to Oreilly Auto Parts and snagged a replacement lighter (10220) for about $5.00.
While holding the element, unscrew the knob from the new lighter. This will reveal three prongs that retain the element.
Use a scribe to slightly lift the prongs from the surface and continue to lift it vertically with a pair of pliers or flathead.
Pull the element out from the bottom of the lighter.
Perform the same procedure above on the stock lighter.
Insert the new element into the stock lighter, bend the prongs, secure the knob and doneski.
$5.00 lighter fix. Booyah! 8-)
