Need help with transfer case install - 73Bronc - 08-01-2010 I'm having a tough time getting my transfer case bolted back onto my transmission. I've never tried this before so I'm learning as I go with this one.. :banghead: Need help with transfer case install - broncomania - 08-01-2010 if your trans is out, bring it over and i'll bolt them together for you. Need help with transfer case install - 73Bronc - 08-01-2010 I separated the transmission and was able to get it bolted up. I now have two pieces to bolt to the transmission, the transfer case and that section that sits between the transfer case and the transmission. Should I try to separate the transfer case from the section that sits between it and the transmission or is it possible to get them attached to the transmission when it's installed? Need help with transfer case install - berg bronco - 08-01-2010 you can do it either way but it might be easier one at a time. thats how i did it and it slid together good. Need help with transfer case install - SC74 - 08-01-2010 be careful if you separate the adapter. I think there is a bearing that the balls will fall out on you if you're not careful. That may be a different combo - not positive. Need help with transfer case install - SC74 - 08-01-2010 Just watched the video - is that as far as you can get it on? Have you tried lowering the rear of the case? If you get it close but it's still giving trouble that last 1/2 inch don't use the bolts to pull it together - it'll only crack the cast housing. Good Luck. Need help with transfer case install - 73Bronc - 08-01-2010 Yeah we've tried lowering the rear of the case to allow it to come up closer. The problem is that we're still unable to get everything lined up correctly. We've positioned it several ways on the transmission jack and it seems close but just not close enough I guess. :banghead: We even tried maneuvering it into place w/o the jack. Phew, talk about a workout  I think I can skip weight lifting this week. I've thought about separating the adaptor section from the case. I even took the bolts loose but the damn thing would not separate. So, I'm going to try and use some long bolts as guides, hoping they can help square everything up. Need help with transfer case install - SC74 - 08-02-2010 I've always wrestled it in also - never had a trans jack to use or borrow. I used my floor jack to roll it under and heaved it up and in from there. I have also seen people do just like firefighter recommended and come through the tunnel with a cherry picker. You'll get it and then wonder why in the world it wouldn't go on sooner. Need help with transfer case install - chuzie - 08-02-2010 Are we sure this is not a spline alignment issue? |
