white smoke from the exhaust?? - blazinchuck - 01-17-2011 help me figure out why this is happening only on inclines??? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKJp8Cw-sgw i need to fix whatever this is before the trip to gulches on the 29th!!!!!:banghead: white smoke from the exhaust?? - chuzie - 01-17-2011 I know you have not lost water and the oil looks good. Odors? Temp? white smoke from the exhaust?? - chuzie - 01-17-2011 That looks like white smoke to me but I was not there. If it was white and not black we can rule out the PCV valve. Have you tried duplicating this at high rpm on a level surface both with and without a load or does it ONLY happen at an angle? white smoke from the exhaust?? - blazinchuck - 01-17-2011 no real odors that i could tell, as for duplicating it...i never got on it while i was just driving around, the only times i hit the skinny pedal was at an incline white smoke from the exhaust?? - blazinchuck - 01-17-2011 i removed the grommet and PCV and there was some oil residue on the grommet, but no oil in the PCV or the hose to the PCV. I havent pulled any plugs yet...might try that later tonight white smoke from the exhaust?? - chuzie - 01-17-2011 We need to try and duplicate it on level ground. Check the PCV just to make sure. if you do have a head gasket leak at the rim of the cylinder and the PCV is bad, it could be pulling water directly into the cylinder and not even messing with the oil. A failed PCV usually produces black smoke but in a head gasket situation it just makes the existing leak worse by pulling more water via the negative pressure. Did you shake the PCV to see if the check vavle is free and rattles inside. Napa sells the coolant tester for $50.00. white smoke from the exhaust?? - jdowns67 - 01-17-2011 Chuck, are you running fuel injection? Automatic or manual transmission? white smoke from the exhaust?? - blazinchuck - 01-17-2011 jdowns67 Wrote:Chuck, are you running fuel injection? Automatic or manual transmission? 91 mustang GT EFI(stock) and np435 4 speed also, the PCV ball is free and rattles easily:banghead: white smoke from the exhaust?? - chuzie - 01-17-2011 I need to call you. white smoke from the exhaust?? - chuzie - 01-17-2011 The other thing that concerns me is that it is only happening, so far, under load. I would venture to say, smoke color aside, that a cylinder compression test may be prudent just in case you have a ring going bad. Since you dont have true dual exhaust and cant duplicate the conditions we cant really narrow to which side this may be originating so test all 8. Have you looked at the spark plugs? I have a compression tester at home if you need it but I bet you have one too. My bets are on head gasket or ring. |
