Sick Pony: 74' Sport Resto Mod for Trail and Street - scbronco - 09-26-2012 Good idea on the deiseling... Trans is leaking between trans and aluminum block adapter. its a 2wd trans. had rtv there, thinking i might just drop the tcase and re-rtv... Gears- setup as best i could for first attempt... only thing i cant be certain on is pinion preload, since i dont have a small guage torque wrench. the noise is not a hum or a howl, its a light and constant clatter. it increases frequency and volume with wheel speed. front d/s was not engageed, just had the hubs locked... im not savvy enough to go back into and feel confident about fixing it on my own... i can def get to chucktown as is, but would want a vet to take a look at it before URE i think... Chuck? ill pay ya... Sick Pony: 74' Sport Resto Mod for Trail and Street - chuzie - 09-27-2012 scbronco Wrote:Good idea on the deiseling... Did you feel any resistance on pinion when you tried to spin it initially with axles removed and fluid drained? It should spin maybe a turn or so. Kind of a ballpark. Just steal, I mean borrow, a low range from work mx boy! Is the chatter constant or only on accel or decel? How did your pattern look? Sick Pony: 74' Sport Resto Mod for Trail and Street - broncosbybart - 09-27-2012 Can't say anything without seeing it, but is your engine idling at too high of an rpm? That can cause dieseling too. It is hard to say on the gear install. There could be a number of things going on (wheel bearing, axle joint, drive shaft, ect). Does it make noise w/out the hubs in? I'd start by taking the drive shaft off and locking the hubs again. See what happens. The drive shaft seems to be a very likely culprit to me. Sick Pony: 74' Sport Resto Mod for Trail and Street - broncosbybart - 09-27-2012 Oh, and for the trans/t-case: you can find a roll of gasket material from a local parts house. Cut it into the pattern you need and try that. I hate RTV. If you decide to use RTV again, use 'the right stuff'. best stuff out there. it comes in a sqeeze can like cheese whiz or spray foam insulation. be warned that the parts won't come apart easily once it is set, if you need to work on it down the road. Sick Pony: 74' Sport Resto Mod for Trail and Street - chuzie - 09-28-2012 Bart makes a good point with the driveshaft. That little cv goes bad and eats up grease real fast and starts making lots of noise. The can o cheese whiz is awesome but if it sitgs for more than 6 months, it dries up and it ain't cheap but I love it Sick Pony: 74' Sport Resto Mod for Trail and Street - scbronco - 09-28-2012 Brand new driveshaft Sick Pony: 74' Sport Resto Mod for Trail and Street - chuzie - 09-28-2012 Huh? Sick Pony: 74' Sport Resto Mod for Trail and Street - scbronco - 09-28-2012 chuzie Wrote:Huh? You guys suggested checking the driveshaft for slop... its a brand new driveshaft, and i though i greased it all really good... gonna remove it tomorrow, and see if the problem persists... Sick Pony: 74' Sport Resto Mod for Trail and Street - Crawdad - 12-12-2012 Hey Nick! Calling you out brother, you've been very quiet lately. How's the Sick Pony these days?
