So the MSD ignition cam in yesterday and spent the rest of the day figuring out which of the 5 possible ways of wiring the tach signal was correct. Edelbrock provides for 3 manners to wire this signal via the 3 pin weather-pack harness pigtail provided with the kit.

1) for HEI- use one tan wire in pin A of connector to tach signal wire. No Dice
2) For CD Box- use one White wire form Pin B of connector to CD box tach output wire. Edelbrock suggested to use this option connected to the tach signal wire on the HEI (cap) once I changed over to the MSD ignition module. Also No Dice.
3) for Mag/Hall Sensor- use all three wires and connect white B pin to Tach output, and Black C pin to Igntion ground.

turns out it was the 6th possible way which MSD's instructions says is not ideal for a strong tach signal, and Edelbrock's instructions doesn't even consider. Had to connect the B pin White wire to the additional tach output wire provided by the MSD Igntion. it's an extra grey wire in addition to the standard HEI Tach signal post off the cap. it provides square wave tach signal across 20*. this was the only wiring option that worked.

BUT IT WORKED!!! Fired up on the second crank, ran a lil rough and then settled in. I had to fuss with the idle setting to cal the TPS quite a bit, and i'm still not real pleased with the idle, but I don't wanna mess with it much until the system has a chance to learn some more. it's just making a lot of correction right now, and kinda "hunting" for the right rpm. I checked all my vacuum and think I will switch from tight zip ties to worm clamps on all those connections to ensure i'm not leaking...

While cruising and accelerating though, it's already a million times improved over carburetion. super smooth, and perfect throttle response. also I think my vacuum brake booster has benefited as well as she stops about 80 feet quicker from 40 mph than before. (noticed at a stop sign I stop at often)

The tablet has 3 different monitoring screens. the one I like best is shown, displays Throttle position, temp, RPM, Vacuum, AFR actual and AFR Set Point, and the correction between the two. The two AFR readout are the bars at the bottom of the screen slows you to see the relationship between your preset AFR goal, and the actual AFR as they fluctuate. pretty brains...

One of the other screens goes full nerd and display every input the ECU is receiving, and lets you monitor in real-time. it has its uses due to the shear amount of data, but is too busy to have as your "down the road display"

AFR of 0.0? That thing must be great on gas.

Your rig has come a long way!! Awesome work!

Thanks Charles! I just looked back at the beginning of this build. Can't believe it ever liked like it did before. Lol!

I went back and looked at it too yesterday. Too funny.

So my fuel pressure issues back in april resulted in an over-pressurized fuel sump that blew a fitting out of the top of it. solution seems to be a regulator between the mech pump and the sump which is coming soon. I also need to address a less than effective fuel venting system, and build a back bumper, all of which I want done prior to the November run. oh and finally install the cb that's collecting dust and grime on my workbench...

actually, I haven't neglected anything! lets see last five months? had a minor meltdown at work that turned out to be ablessing in disguise, made Master Sergeant, got a new job title/duty position that suits me takes longer hours, put some time in on the fairlane, custom fab/grafted in a crown vic IFS into a 60 f100, helped Earthguy Por15 his EB frame, Replaced the fuel sump on Sick Pony, replaced the floor in my parents house, took 2 weeks vacation at the beach, road the Harley form sumter to myrtle to Wilmington and all the way back thru, took my boys on a few outdoor adventures, took the wife out for a dinner or two, took the boat out and had a beer... repeatedly. Wink

ive been a little busy, sorry for neglecting the site tho... (head hung in shame)
