Sounds like a long time but it will be long enough to bring everything up to temp and check for leaks. Since the cam is only splash lubed from the crankshaft, this will ensure that the cam gets plenty of oil and doesn't wipe a lobe. I try to run the Rotella for about 2-300 miles then change it. new engine - 66stocker - 05-11-2009 I used straight 30W non detergent oil (break in oil) for the first 50 miles to get the rings seated in good. High detergent, high quality oils work too good and the rings will just glaze the cylinders and not cut in. Then a good quality 10W-30 for the next 1500. After that just regular changes. new engine - berg bronco - 05-11-2009 bucketobolts Wrote:When you first fire the engine, rev it up around 2000 rpm for 10-15 minutes. Multi-weight, really good grade of oil should be OK, of course you're going to get a lot of different opinions on that and you'll have to make up your own mind. :xyxthumbs: |
