It's not rust... - blazinchuck - 03-19-2010 wow, had no idea...you had mike's old bronco. i think that thing has so many of my old parts off my rig. thats cools! i dig the black! It's not rust... - wormhole - 03-19-2010 The engine wouldn't happen to be from you would it? It's got some go fast parts on it, but I don't know how deep it's been messed with. Lemme just say...it scoots! I'm going to try to dig into the wiring harness tomorrow and see if I can figure out why none of the rear lights or blinkers work, and try to get some more paint to finish off the front. I guess I"ll need to pick up a cheapo multimeter since I don't have one. I'll probably try to finish installing the seat belts. I bent my 1/4" bit I was using for guide holes, so I'll have to figure something out. At some point in time I think I'm going to have to drop the D20 out of it. The stick that controls the front will push all the way to the dash (even with the rear in high) and doesn't make the engaging click sound the rear one makes. I don't know anything about the internals of those, so that'll be an interesting experience. Looks like I'm stuck with RWD until I fix it. It's not rust... - JayT - 03-20-2010 Nah, I got Chuck's engine... hehehe... Of course, he did have a few sitting around... Buy yourself a GOOD meter (sorry, it's a pet peeve of mine)... Although any meter will work on the simple wiring systems we have on the EBs, as long as you know how to read it. The D20 is just about bullet proof (IMHO). What kind of cowl cover do you have on the floor board? If you get to it, we can diagnose it before tearing it out.. There are 2 shift rails on it, one for 2wd/4wd (front output shaft) and the other is for High/Low range... The stock shift lever has a linkage that goes between the two shift rails, but sounds like this one has been twin-sticked. I'd like to see you engage each shift rail manually to make sure that it's an internal problem before you go too crazy. Holler if you need a hand... I should be in the shop all day tomorrow, so I might not hear the phone though. JayT It's not rust... - wormhole - 03-20-2010 My fiance's relatives that were 'dropping in' today managed to stay until 4pm, so I got jack diddly done today after helping her clean house all morning. I did manage to get by the auto store and pick up some more black paint, but they only had one can left. It was buy one get one free, so the girl said we'll get one from another store and hold it for you, stop in tomorrow and pick it up...so yay, I get a free can tomorrow hopefully. I backed it out of the garage so I wouldn't suck so many fumes this time. More importantly, this was the first time for me in the drivers seat while the truck was moving... managed to stall it out 3 times trying to back it out, then promptly left tire marks as I spun out in reverse down my driveway. Fiance got a good laugh at that. I found your info in the NC section JayT, but I didn't give you a ring since it got so late on me. Thanks a lot for the offer though, it's much appreciated. As far as the top part of my D20, I have something that looks a lot like this: I'm not sure how much visibility you'd get, but worth a shot I guess. Everything else on the tunnel is welded down. Some of you guys know me from the Hendersonville Cruise, but I don't think I've met a lot of the eastern NC guys. Here's a pic of me and the fiance. Dunno if she's gonna come to Concord or not. I told her there would be other wimmens there, haha. It's not rust... - berg bronco - 03-20-2010 ya thats a twin stick knowing mike he probably made a true twin stick it should shift completly indepedent you might have to put new detent springs to make it have a more definite "click" http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/Uber-20/Ford%20D20.jpg It's not rust... - JayT - 03-22-2010 x2 what berg said... PM Mike (broncomania) and ask... I'm sure he'd fill ya in... or pull that boot off and watch the rails shift to be sure they engage... It's not rust... - wormhole - 03-23-2010 Yeah I don't think I'll get that patched up before the meet. That diagram is pretty sweet though, time to save that away somewhere. I got the bolts I needed in from BC today to reattach the front driveshaft, although I don't think I'm going to bother until I can poke at the D20. I also got in rear ebrake lines for the drums, and a set of LED bulbs for the gauge cluster since I only have one bulb working. Of course, that doesn't do me any good until I can poke at the wiring. I don't have another free weekend until after the meet, so I just might end up on a trailer after all. Got a mirror up, and got the outer part of the seat belts in. Looks like I'm gonna need some longer bolts for the middle. There's a channel down there that looks like it might have been part of the old half-cab mount that I'm going to have to bolt through. Tried to work on the wiring/fuses. I managed to snap off a piece of metal that holds the fuse in and busted the fuse all to hell. I have another fusebox, I guess I could swap it out. I just don't know if I'll have it done before the meet. Getting it there on the trailer is looking less and less likely, my ride has been too tied up with grad school to get home and see if he can borrow it from his parents. Oh well. I'll still show up, I might be driving a Chevy though. It's not rust... - Mill Knob - 04-01-2010 wormhole Wrote:Welp, worked more on it tonight.
