If not the u-joint wil accelerate in part of its rotation and decel on another part. It will wear the joint out doing this. Closer to straight is better. Actually straight is best. Use a tubing bender mag base angle finder. Put it on the top of your drive shaft and then on top of the pinion guard. The two should have the same deflection off "0" or be at the same angle from 90 degrees. just to add to this...perfectly straight is sitting still/not moving...the reason for 1-2* under straight line is for driving or acceleration...the pinion will rotate up-there by-being in a straight line while under powermokin: rear axle shims? - blazinchuck - 01-04-2011 berg bronco Wrote: i think that looks pretty daayum good...as you accelerate..it will be inline straight:xyxthumbs: rear axle shims? - berg bronco - 01-04-2011 blazinchuck Wrote:i think that looks pretty daayum good...as you accelerate..it will be inline straight:xyxthumbs: thanks Chuck! i thought it looked close but the local mech. was very worried rear axle shims? - blazinchuck - 01-04-2011 Crawdad Wrote:Your angle looks a lot better than mine. JBG told me I shouldn't have to lengthen my driveshaft but I think I may need to. i was able to get away from not having to lengthen my driveshaft after my 3.5" lift...but I would think a 5-6" would really need to be lengthened. and we have a drive shaft vender in your area i believe-should get a discount |
