Cam advice.... - bucketobolts - 01-19-2011 The FRR E303 is a pretty mild cam that doesn't loose a lot of bottom end torque. The bumpity-bump idle is greatly affected by compression. The higher the compression the more "blow back" you get during valve overlap causing the exhaust note. I believe if you spend enough time planning the right combination of pieces, you can get a nice sounding idle and great offroad power. Cam advice.... - chuzie - 01-19-2011 Thanks for the info. Are you volunteering? I don't know jack about this stuff. All my engines have always been stock. This engine, stock, should have 9.0:1 compression. Cam advice.... - bucketobolts - 01-19-2011 I don't mind helping. Before I built the 393W for my rig (in snipes243 now) I had a plan for a 302 with pretty much stock heads and bottom end that should pump out about 300ftlbs of torque from 2k-5k. And it would have a wicked idle. Not sure if that is the direction you want or not. Cam advice.... - chuzie - 01-20-2011 That is what I am going for. That is some sweet torque values in the low range. Any way the mid range HP can me moved down about 500-1000 RPM? Is this the FRR E303? Cam advice.... - bucketobolts - 01-21-2011 That is my "secret weapon" cam. The particular simulation was a flat tappet cam with EB heads. I'll tinker with some different cam grinds and see what we can come up with. BTW...That engine would be more of a "Welch" style engine meant to be driven with the balls out. Also if I remember correctly, the engine that used to be in Carl's burgundy Bronco was a late model roller with Trick Flow heads and cam. Turn up the volume and watch the video... DAYUM THAT SOUNDS SWEEEEET!!!! Cam advice.... - chuzie - 01-21-2011 Now THAT is what I am talking about!!! Cam advice.... - bucketobolts - 01-25-2011 Here are a few charts for a .030 over 10:1 short block with stock E7 casting heads and roller cams. I looked up the Comp 266HR, B303, E303, Stage 1 Trick Flow, and Comp XE270HR. All should have a little bump to the idle with the exception of the 266HR, but should work with a stock converter. I like the torque curve of both the B303 and the E303. The XE270 made more horsepower, but looks like it may be lacking below 2k rpm. Comp266HR Trick Flow Stage 1 B303 E303 Comp XE270HR Cam advice.... - blazinchuck - 01-26-2011 this is starting to sound like our 306, however the cam aint that impressive...more like a RV cam. I think Shawn's mustang 306 has a e303 cam in it...sounds sweet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNwO4Fo6QLM correction, shawn just told me its a wolverine which is close to the F303 about .510-.512 lift, a e303 is about .498 lift Cam advice.... - chuzie - 01-26-2011 I think the E303 or the Comp XE270HR would be the best choices from this list considering the HP and torque levels. Again, I am running a stock 302HO with an unknown time and mileage since rebuild (if any). Jdowns brought a valid point to the table about throwing the engine over the edge with performance upgrades. Does anyone else hae any further thoughts on that subject? |
