Need Input - trkbilder - 04-18-2008 chuzie Wrote:Is the ticking so bad you can't drive it for a little longer without damaging the engine further? I am sure someone can help out. I am a 5.0 guy but would certainly give it a try if I was not in Oklahoma. How bad can it possibly be? Is a lifter replacement in those engines more difficult or something? Not being a mechanic, I can't answer any of your questions. This makes me want to go back to college and take some auto courses. Any way, my wife and I have decided to pay their price, it'll be ready Tues. I have a 2.9 in my parts rig, I'm thinking about taking it out and building that. then if anything else happens, out with the old and in with the new. Only problem is I'd have to pay some one to build that one for me. I'll decide later. thanks for your concern! Need Input - smooth - 04-18-2008 Sorry, I missed this earlier, though I don't think I could do anything cause I don't believe you are that close, but I have to agree with Chuzie, I don't know 2.9's, but I can have access to my lifters in less then an hour (and that's through all the EFI), and unless I'm missing something it would be a matter of swapping them out, and then running your truck through a break-in to make sure there's no damage to the cam from the new lifters. Maybe I'm missing something, but honestly, removing the intake and head (if necessary, if it is inline it may be, if it's V, it shouldn't be, just losen the rocker that coinsides with the offending lifter) and swapping a couple of lifters doesn't seem like something that would amount to $800 (of course, I'd be singing a different tune if I made a living doing this stuff). Think of it this way, atleast you'll have the peace of mind that it was done right and you have someone you can hold liable if they do anything negligently. MoMo Edit: Also, make sure they are not charging you for a full set of lifters unless they are replacing all of them. Go on Summitracing.com and price a set, then check that price against what they charge for parts, if it's the same, verify that they replaced them all, have them provide you with the old ones. Sometimes, they'll charge you for the full set, replace only what is needed, and keep the rest to profit twice on some other project. Just my $.02. Need Input - cuz1 - 04-18-2008 Now you'll have a bronco to the Raleigh Bash. Don't tell me you can't come either. It's not that bad of a rideupergrin: carl w Need Input - Traveler - 04-18-2008 I would not fix it. How many miles on it? What year? the 2.9 is common for cracking heads. The one I did here recently started out with a ticking. The guy that owned it went and had it checked, had the lifters replaced. $600. A month later one of the heads cracked. He had both heads replaced for $800. A couple months later it started pumping oil. Ended up spending another $800 to overhaul the rest of the engine. My opinion, run it into the ground, save your money for a conversion, or another used motor. Need Input - blazinchuck - 04-18-2008 hey Clint, get what ever you would need for a complete motor swap(new or good engine, hoses, all the parts) and we could come for a weekend motor slam!!! I'm down for that,Chuck Need Input - smooth - 04-18-2008 blazinchuck Wrote:hey Clint, get what ever you would need for a complete motor swap(new or good engine, hoses, all the parts) and we could come for a weekend motor slam!!! I'm down for that,Chuck Depending on the weekend, I'd be up for that as well! Love work weekends! I will even volunteer for the 'supervisor' position. Someone has got to make sure no one knocks over the beers. BTW Chuck, this thread got me thinking, what would you think of a Emergency Forum? I've seen it on other boards where you could post immediate help request, whether it's answers or recovery or stranded, etc. I've seen it listed with a note that states "Only to be used in emergency situations only!" Just a thought, love the board! I'm down for that,ChuckI really appreciate all this but like MoMo said, I will have some one to hold responsible if it doesn't work out. You guys humble me beyond belief!! Carl, I already had prior commitments or I'd be in Raleigh, hope you guys have a ball!! I'll keep you guys posted on how this all shacks out but I will promise this, THERE WILL BE A 4.0 IN THE FUTURE!!!!:drinkbud: We could still have the engine slam one day, I'll cover the eats and deserts. I'm really a very good cook!! Need Input - blazinchuck - 04-18-2008 smooth Wrote:BTW Chuck, this thread got me thinking, what would you think of a Emergency Forum?
