Taurus Fan - chuzie - 07-12-2008 I run a 190 thermostat in my rig. When you get the opportunity I would suggest stripping the front end of the motor and trying to get all the alignment back to stock. I used that have the same deal and it cause many problems especially when I tried to upgrade other items. Taurus Fan - 69bronco - 07-12-2008 Bad is right about the temps. The hotter you get an engine the better to a certain point of course. If it never gets hotter than 210 when crawling you never have nothing to worry about. Yeah I spent alot of time reading your stuff you sent me did some more reasearch...so now I am pumped and ready to improve my junk...and then spent an hour(10mins probably) tracing a non existant problem...anyway tommorow I will try again!!!:hysterical: Taurus Fan - johnpaulgolf - 07-12-2008 some more relay stuff I stole from another site. http://www.r1200gs.info/howto/relay.html http://www.ado13.com/techs/relay.htm Taurus Fan - chuzie - 07-13-2008 good info. Taurus Fan - BigO - 07-14-2008 Badass Wrote:also your not using water you hopefully are using coolant and that has a higher boiling point as well.. Badass is right. Heres is a geeky explanation why: The antifreeze/coolant is what is known as a "colligative agent", and as such, their boiling point elevation properties and freezing point depression properties are proportional (it raises the water's boiling point as much as it lowers the freezing point). Another example of a "colligative agent" is salt. If you add salt into a pot of water that is just starting to boil (before you add pasta), you will notice that the water simmers and takes a moment to come to a boil again. That is because you just raised the boiling point of the water (only slightly though, unless you use a lot of salt). At the other end of the spectrum, the colligative properties of salt is why it is used to de-ice the roads in colder climates. The salt mixes with the snow and slush, and lowers the freezing point of the water molecules, thereby preventing (or just postponing, depending on the temperature) ice from forming on the roads. Anyway, thats why if you are using a 50/50 mix in your cooling system, the boiling point is well above 212 deg. leep:leep:leep: (did I put everybody to sleep with this)? Taurus Fan - broncomatt - 07-15-2008 Jp keep in mind that your t-stat will determain what the base temp your engin will run at. You wont know what temps you will run on the trail untill you try. In winter I run a 160, on a hot summer I may not even run one at all. The engine will still reach a decent operating temp. I have run all types of fans, nothing will beat a mechanical fan for cfm. If you still run hot at times you can upgrade other components with extra coolers. I run an oil cooler, ps cooler, and 2 tranny coolers. All have there own 10"electric fan. Broncomatt |
