Carb Question.. Help a Brother out.... - Mill Knob - 09-03-2009

bucketobolts Wrote:You can get fumes from an overly lean condition, NOX fumes. A lean condition could also cause the loss of power or lug. When the choke is closed raising vacuum through the venturi, more fuel is drawn.

You can let the engine idle with the choke off and take a folded towel and cover the top of the choke horn with the towel and your hand trying to shut off the air. If the engine raises RPM before shutting off, your mixture is lean. If it just sputters and shuts off, your mixture is rich.

Did you check the float level with the guage when you rebuilt it? It sounds like it may be too low.

No I did not check the float level with the gauage because I just put fuel in it and it seem to look normal. I might need to check that. Thanks.

Even whe you just reassemble the carb you need to reset the float height. Most kits come with a L shaped ruler. If you dont have one, let me know I can mail you one.

Thanks Matt but I do have one. I did check the float level dry but not wet. Me and 66 stocker (Bill) are going to tinker on the Bronco next week and see what kind of damage we can do.

I think the problem might be fix with the new Pertronix ignition and Accel coil. I will know more once I get to drive my Bronco longer.

So went over to 66 stocker house (bill) with my Bronco to see if we could fix the choke problem. Yes it was still there after I put the new coil and pertronix on. The float was to low. So after finding out what it needed to be set to, Bill put the magic tough on the carb and it runns alot better. But don't start to good. But I think that can be fix by a small adjustment. Plus work on the timing alittle. I really don't think Bill turn it much. Thanks you Bill for the help. Bill I have your pry bar. You left it in my Bronco. I heard it role around in my Bronco when I went around a curve. I will get it to you when I am over your way or when I see you..

No problem George. Always good to turn a wrench and talk Broncos with you.
There's still a few things we can do to get it running cherry.

No hurry on the pry bar. I'll get it back sometime in the next few weeks.
