ParadisePWoffrd's EB - ParadisePWoffrD - 04-21-2011 actually I 1 linked the rear (i know:wacko... originally I was going to 4 link it, but once I tacked the brackets on the frame, I felt like they were rock anchors and didnt like how it was going to turn out... I went for the 1 link out of laziness mainly, but ended up having more work in it... Doing some brief testing here, it doesnt look to have much roll steering which is common on a panhard suspension... the 2 things I am concerned with at the moment is how much the rear will jack under acceleration (and if it will affect anything), and whether the heim on the front end will hold up (it is tucked up above the frame rails so it should not drag much)... I will probly be installing a center limit strap and/or suck down winch, and have spare heims to carry to bandaid these things... Longterm I will replace with a bigger joint if it works well or goto a 4 link of some kind... (ultimately Id like to tube the rear more and get rid of alot of this steel/rust)... ParadisePWoffrd's EB - ParadisePWoffrD - 05-01-2011 I got the beadlocks and gear install started... rear 5.42 install should be completed in the next day or so... On to the beadlocks... I dont have anything special just aluminum wheels with aluminum weld on rings... The idea I tried I saw some place years ago, and that was to use a belt for the anti-coning ring... Pics: First you have to break down the rims (TSLs are difficult so I took mine somewhere)... Next drop the tire over the top of the beadlock wheel and push the rear bead across (remember to put in a valve stem)... I typically put a bead of silicone between the outer tire bead and the inner beadlock ring to help seal it. put the outer ring on and drop all the bolts into place and start the nuts on the backside... depending on tire bead thinkness you may need a few longer bolts to get it started insert your V-belt (mower) between the inner and outer rings on the inside of the bolts (I cut a longer belt to the correct length, but you can also get the correct diameter belt if buying one) snug all the nuts/bolts up and tighten in a criss-cross fashion set wheel/tire over a bucket where the tires hangs and fill with air until rear bead seats set air pressure and remount wheel/tire to rig.. ParadisePWoffrd's EB - ParadisePWoffrD - 05-01-2011 my 2 cents.... the belt worked great as an anti-coning ring.... as for bolt argument, I now would recommend anyone use a standard hex head vs a button head... i used button heads and am really hating putting them together... ParadisePWoffrd's EB - broncosbybart - 05-02-2011 The hex heads probably look cool though right??? They probably won't take too kindly to rocks. I'd not want to have to fight with them to remove them later on. The V belt trick is a great idea! Looking good. You gonna make it to the Flats? ParadisePWoffrd's EB - ParadisePWoffrD - 05-02-2011 i think the button heads look better and should hold up to rock rash better, but i recommend having a number of 7/32 allen sockets on hand.... I have done 1 wheel and worn one out... I plan to come to the Flats on Saturday, just need to make sure the front gets gears ParadisePWoffrd's EB - ParadisePWoffrD - 06-01-2011 I had prior engagements that my wife didnt tell me about and therfore did not make it to the flats... I got the beadlocks together, and all of them leak after a while... I have tried a trick from the sand rail beadlocks and poured alumaseal and antifreeze in the tire to help with balancing and leaking... They will all stay up for around a week so Im not too concerned. I am also in the process of charging the air shocks and regearing the axles... deep gears are already great... now just need a tcase Hoping to get it all done for our ride this weekend... Here are some shots before the beadlocks... ParadisePWoffrd's EB - blazinchuck - 06-01-2011 that looks tough as hell!!! ParadisePWoffrd's EB - ParadisePWoffrD - 06-02-2011 Im planning to take a few pages from your book and narrow the front.... I have a seperate clip to use for that, so I can still wheel in the mean time... Around the same time, Im thinking of adding more tube/stretching the front/installing full hydro steering... I am currently at 103" wb and would like to get 105-110" ParadisePWoffrd's EB - ParadisePWoffrD - 07-17-2011 Put in a set of suspension seats. ParadisePWoffrd's EB - broncosbybart - 07-19-2011 you had that thing out yet? looking good! can't tell it was the old raffle truck anymore... |
