My Silver '76 - Crawdad - 06-03-2012 Anything wrong with your engine, tranny & TC? Watcha gonna do with it? My Silver '76 - BucknEB - 06-03-2012 The C4 and D-20 are going back in. The TC is ruined. A local transmission shop rounded one of the flange nuts that held the TC to the flexplate. We fought to get it off for almost an hour until we decided to torch it off. The torch melted everything TC, flexplate, nut, bolt and all. So long story short the TC and flexplate are unusable. As far as the engine is concerned there are some usable parts (4bbl carb, intake, accessories) but the engine developed a steady knock the last several hundred miles. I suspect that the bearings have been ruined due to running the 50oz flexplate on a 28oz engine for the last year. We are going to drop both fuel tanks today and begin stripping/cleaning the frame. I've ordered some POR15 rust and topcoat to paint the frame while everything is out. Also, I have a 2'' body lift ordered with wild horses that we are going to install. I need the extra clearance under the hood to fit the taller Trick Flow intake on the 5.0. I'll try to keep the thread updated with progress and pictures as the build continues. My Silver '76 - BucknEB - 06-06-2012 Just a quick update as I sit in my hotel room in Springfield, MO. I can't wait to get back home and continue this project. Sunday I went over to Chuck's. The fuel tanks were removed and the underside of the truck got a good degreaser and pressure washing as did the transmission and transfer case. I can't thank Chuck enough for all his hard work. Thanks Bro! I'll be back in Charleston on Friday to get back on this. My Silver '76 - SC74 - 06-06-2012 Sounds like you have the fever bad. I wish I could catch some of your motivation to get back to work on mine. Keep the updates coming. My Silver '76 - chuzie - 06-06-2012 Cant wait to get back to Charleston on Sunday and bust your balls about this. TC + torch = not a good idea. That was the best solution you two knuckleheads could come up with? So what is a new TC + flexplate gonna cost? My Silver '76 - BucknEB - 06-06-2012 The TC and flexplate were already on my list to purchase. These are the parts that were in question as to the cause of the vibration from the 302. Those parts were tainted and they needed to be destroyed, lol. upergrin: Besides the fact that I'm researching the idea of a different stall rate converter. Any ideas? The flange nut was rounded off so bad that vice gripes wouldn't even lock on to it. After fighting for at least an hour I made the call to torch it. It was getting late and our patience had already ran out. Bring that ball busting Chuzie. My Silver '76 - chuzie - 06-06-2012 Low stall for off road but not too low. My Silver '76 - blazinchuck - 06-06-2012 i had a 1000 over stock...roughly 1800 stall. i loved it off road. where as before with a stock c4...i could never plant the power down when it was needed. with the 1800...i could power brake to 1500 and launch it if needed. My Silver '76 - ParadisePWoffrD - 06-07-2012 I would also say 1500-2000 stall. any lower then that and you could have issues with it trying to push through the brakes. Especially with low axle & tcase gears My Silver '76 - chuzie - 06-07-2012 blazinchuck Wrote:i had a 1000 over stock...roughly 1800 stall. i loved it off road. where as before with a stock c4...i could never plant the power down when it was needed. with the 1800...i could power brake to 1500 and launch it if needed. Gee, and no one can quite figure out why he snaps joints and explodes rear ends! :thefinger: |
