Capacitor values? - chuzie - 04-20-2008

So we have a solution to the problem but have now added a problem to the solution. So does anyone have a solution to the problem for the solution to the problem? I will keep researching the SCR and see what I can find.

Thanks

Here's a possible solution to the problem with the problem.... If you would be satisfied with say a 10 sec delay before start up of the radar detector.. an r/c circuit can delay voltage supplied to the gate of the SCR... This would allow the main supply voltage to the SCR to be switched off when the ignition switch is turned to the off position...allowing reset of the SCR.

So a resistor, capacitor & SCR could be used...

Can the 10 seconds be increased or reduced? That sounds good to me.

Chuzie,

Yes.. you can use a variable resistor (potentiometer) in series with another resistor (for the minimum amount of time desired)

T=R*C (time = resistance x capacitance)

R = Ohms
C = Capacitance is in farads
T = seconds = a time constant... 1st time constant is approximately 63% of the overall capacitor voltage storage..

I can't recall the gate trigger voltage for an SCR but it probably around 2-4Volts...but I'm guessing...you would need to look at a spec sheet.

Hope this helps... it's been 20yrs since I had to recall such stuff..Confusedcratchhe:

Thanks. I will run the numbers after work and see what I can come up with. It has only been 3 years since I had to recall that stuff and I still can't. My memory sucks.

Thanks for the help.
