problem with my 79 - fordfan - 01-04-2009

having a problem with my 79 that im unsure about. When im driving and get over about 15-20 mph, the whole truck is jerking up and down and my transmission housing is covered in fluid. would a tranny problem cause this kind of jerking? Any advice?Confusedcratchhe:Confusedcratchhe:

I've seen this recently (on a 79 coincidently, but F150). Check all the trans/bellhousing/xfer case bolts. That was the cause of the fluid leaking... Bouncing was 1 (or more) bad tires. We ended up replacing all the tires and it rides like a dream (as well as 79 can) with no leaks. It may not be your problem, but hopefully sharing our experience will help you...

Give me a holler (reply or PM) if you've got any questions.

Later,
JayT

also check your trac bar where it bolts to the axle. when that bolt gets loose or the bushings go out it wollers out the mounting hole and causes the front end to shake real hard. but that wouldnt have anything to do with your trans.

also check the torque convertor bolts while checking those above.
if they get loose the truck will vibrate really bad and knock the bearings out of the bottom end. ive seen it happen to a guy once before. it throws the engine off balance.
