Surfs rust in gas tank. HELP!!! - Mill Knob - 04-08-2009 I had to get another gas tank after I sprang a leak with mine after coming home from the meet and greet. I end up getting a free one from a guy in Charoltte. It is in great shape, but has some surfs rust inside of the tank. So what to docratchhe: Do I just leave it alone? HELP!!! - nhopman - 04-08-2009 take a piece of heavy chain and shake it around inside the tank to get rid of the loose rust. Vacuum out all the pieces and with a filter on the pick-up and in the line somewhere you will probably be fine. You can also pick up a sealer kit to seal up and coat the inside of the tank, which would be best, but they run $40-$50. POR-15 makes a good kit, you can also get one at Eastwood.
