Wheel hop issues - JustJeff - 01-24-2010

I think I may buy a 67 in my area. The owner has lifted it about 5 inches with a James Duff Lift, duel shocks all the way around, and full length leaf springs. He is having problems with wheel hop in first gear. Its not a problem in low gear however. He has also installed a new clutch and heavy duty anti wrap trap on the axle. He also had custom drive shafts made to fit.
I have heard that it is an easy fix, and once it is lifted that high there is some issues with the linkages that may cause the wheel hop.

Any help would be appriciated. I don't want to purchase and sink a ton more into it off the start.

Jeff, I have no experience with wheel hop, but is it wheel hop, or axle wrap. I think that's two different problems, so the antiwrap trap wouldn't solve it. I had problems with axle wrap, but was running blocks. Soft springs might cause either of these symptoms, but Duff makes some great stuff, so I'd doubt that was your problem here.

(Sight unseen) wheel hop in 1st gear wouldn't prevent me from buying an EB if everything typical for a 67 was copasetic... But that's just me.

Wow, re-reading this, it doesn't sound like I helped you a bit... Sorry, Jeff... Wish I had more help than this. Good luck!

I'm looking at merging the two Bronco's into one really good machine. I have quite a bit of frame cancer in my 69. Its mostly in the back. I think the shock mount is going to rip out every time I drive it. They both have good 289's so thats a plus.
