Project Snow Ball - 73Bronc - 03-14-2010 It all started when my clutch release bearing started squealing a few months ago. With warmer weather came renewed focus and I decided to tackle it last week. Pulled the tranny and transfer case for the first time. It went pretty much as planned. Then my Dad says, "now would be the best time to pull the motor and clean it up". Hence the name project snow ball :toothy12:. It's really amazing how productive I can be when the wife is out of town for work :xyxthumbs: My garage now looks like the Bronc got the dreaded stomach bug and vomited the drivetrain. :hysterical: I'm contemplating my next moves. cratchhe: The 351W is in pretty good shape but certainly needs some enhancement and cleanup. New intake & carb, valve covers, and maybe a new ignition system. I have a new set of JetHot coated headers ready for install. We'll see how the budget holds up. As for the tranny, it's the original 3 spd. I've thought about the NP435 but not sure I really need to upgrade to it. I do think it's time to abandon the 3-on-the-tree. I may just get the tranny rebuilt and move it to the floor. It may be time for a wrenching party in Raleigh! :popc1: Project Snow Ball - JayT - 03-14-2010 Wow! Congrats! I hear ya about the warmer weather... I've finally gotten back into the shop too... Just say the word, and I'll be there at the wrenchin party! Project Snow Ball - wormhole - 03-14-2010 If you're interested in driving one with the np435, I have one in mine I'd let you take for a spin sometime. I have a few more things to do to get it street ready, but it should only take a few more weeks. Project Snow Ball - 73Bronc - 03-14-2010 From what I've read, the np435 gives you an extra low (granny) gear but the other three gears pretty much match the original 3spd. Is that about right? Project Snow Ball - berg bronco - 03-14-2010 The np435 is the best thing ive done to mine the granny gear is nice. the other three gears are about the same the only thing I dont like about it is the gearing is a little spread out. but i think its well worth it Project Snow Ball - NGABronco - 03-14-2010 Hey 73, I thought everybodys garage looked like that!!!! Right berg??? Project Snow Ball - berg bronco - 03-14-2010 Thats right! Project Snow Ball - 73Bronc - 03-15-2010 Here are the updates from last night: ââ¬Â¢ Did a first round of wiping down the engine ââ¬Â¢ Disconnected the exhaust manifold from the exhaust pipes ââ¬Â¢ Did a wipe down of the engine compartment (passengerââ¬â¢s side) Next steps: ââ¬Â¢ Remove the heads from the block ââ¬Â¢ Remove the fly wheel and have it turned ââ¬Â¢ Take the transmission for rebuild ââ¬Â¢ Search the backyard for a money tree upergrin: Project Snow Ball - medwards01 - 03-15-2010 73Bronc you said, "Search the backyard for a money tree"....You got that right brother!! :headslap: Project Snow Ball - bucketobolts - 03-15-2010 Are you planning on rebuilding or just freshening up the 351? |
