FBG...the beginning - blazinchuck - 12-05-2010 I used to have pics and a thread, but I think since the site has moved a few times...things have been lost. So I thought I would start from the beginning. I bought her from Harpers Ferry,WV for $4500...here she was back then the day I brought her home... she was sporting some 32" tires, no lift, crazy front and rear bumpers,M8000 winch(no controller) and a fresh 302 and C4 this is the only pic I could find of the 2" body lift sporting some new 33" Dakota AT's. I drove it around for a few months, mainly getting used to the motor/tranny/and drive train. Here you can see, I ditched the old bumper for a Warn bumper modified to mount higher and closer to the grill. Once I began collecting some parts, it was time to start taking the next step. I removed the body and every component leaving just a frame. My frame was one of those with that AWESOME tar covering the frame:banghead:...I had to basically catch the frame on fire and burn that junk off before I could completely sand blast the frame. Unfortunately I didnt take a bunch of pics back then( I'll look in the other PC to see if I can find some) Here are a few pics(sorry, very grainy) of the frame. Frame was done in POR15 silver, installed longer radius arms from All For Fun Offroad, Duff front shock hoops+shocks, BCBroncos rear 3.5"11 leaf springs,WH's inboard rear shock mount and front 4.5" rock crawler coils,BCBroncos 25gal tank, WCB's rock crawler steering system, New ProComp MT's 35x12.5x15 on Chrome crawler wheels w/a spare to match. and of coarse the motor, trans, transfer case, and axles were all painted to look the part:xyxthumbs: once the frame was rolling, now came the time to fix what really started all this work...(it needed floor boards):hysterical: so of coarse...that meant frame off:crying::bdent: now the body went back on. Installed a new Centech wiring harness, installed some '94 Acura seats, Tom's rear seat, and you cant see where I did a glove box/speaker grill swap...for a later upgrade(front tie in cage) but it was done. As you can see, Emily is a big help. LOL, you should have seen her when she and I were painting the frame...POR doesnt come off lil girls, chocolate lab, or daddy:toothy12: FBG...the beginning - SC74 - 12-05-2010 Great old pics Chuck! I need to gather up some of my old ones of the '74 baby blue build and post them up too. FBG looked like a cherry when you got her. FBG...the beginning - blazinchuck - 12-05-2010 Once the body was reinstalled, then came some twin sticks. Drove her around for a couple months. Just needed to enjoy all that work I just put into her. she was getting there slowly, but surely:xyxthumbs: Then word on the street, was there was gonna be a 4x4 show coming up...so we busted our butts trying to get her finished and be at the show. Now came all the body work... The body wasnt too bad. Had to remove and weld up all the side trim. convert the front marker lights in the grill back to the '74 style(someone made them the 66-67 style). We painted it at my buddy Scott's garage. We had just painted his K5 there a week earlier and it came out great and the shop was already prep for painting. The grill and cage were treated to some "tiger sharp grey" and the body got 2000 Dodge Viper red, for some reason a few pics look like the body came out more orange than red...but its red all the body work, prep, and paint was complete in only 3 days!!! We also deleted the original tire carrier mount system, I was in the market for a bumper/tire carrier combo FBG...the beginning - blazinchuck - 12-05-2010 heres a few more...I already had a Duff rear bumper, so I ordered their tire carrier and installed it before the show. I think this brings her up to the point of getting the full width 1/2 tons, and then to the 1 tons and dove-tailing in the other build thread...which I went back and updated with some pic that were lost:xyxthumbs: FBG...the beginning - blazinchuck - 12-06-2010 found a couple more pics and added them to my last post FBG...the beginning - ncsubronc - 12-14-2010 cool pics chuck....FBG come a loooooong way! |
