What length battery cables - Crawdad - 02-17-2011 Just wanted ya'lls input on battery cables. I was told to go ahead and replace my old cables. Since he will be helping me trouble shoot my ignition problems I figure I can atleast do that for him. Here are my 2 Q's........ 1) Does anyone have any recommendations on quick release clamps? Advance had some but were sorta cheezy. 2) Also, does length of positive wire make a difference? JBG has an EXTREME 26" 2 awg positive and a 12" 2 awg positive. Would it hurt to use a 30" 4 awg and a 18" 4 awg (from battery to relay)? I personally like to have some slack. I appreciate any and all opinions! What length battery cables - snipes243 - 02-17-2011 Length doesn't so much matter as long as. The longer you go you will need a heavier gauge cable. What length battery cables - broncosbybart - 02-17-2011 i like a little extra slack myself. my wife doesn't seem to agree though.. as far as cables go, you are right on the money. the JBG cables sound short to me. keep in mind that 2 ga is heavier than 4 ga. i'd much prefer 2 ga for the cables. You don't have to go to 0 ga though... Not sure what you mean by quick release clamps. if you are talking about the battery terminal clamps, they all are like you describe, unless you find a premade cable. the auto stores should have those as well, but they would probably be 4 ga. They will work if you can't come up with anything else. What length battery cables - Crawdad - 02-20-2011 I bought 2 AWG for ground and 4 AWG to the relay and 4 AWG to the starter. Works very well now! |
