Help! I need someone who can tig weld almn - broncomatt - 06-21-2011

Since I'm out of work again I am putting together the motor for my crew cab. A few years ago I bought a used intake on ebay for it. While cleaning it up I have found 2 small cracks in the cross over tube for the exhaust. One is on the top side and and the other is on the under side. This is a cast aluminum intake and its a polished one too. I realize tig welding the top side may hurt the look of it but I dont care. I would realy like to save it (cant afford to do much else).
Since its only an exhaust cross over I could use a good epoxie but I was hoping someone on here had a tig welder and could stich it up for me. I can drill and grind the cracks so all that needs to be done is weld it.
Cany anybody help me out?

i can't do it but in the welding class i had, they pretty much turned away all cast pieces. alum is a very dirty metal, and apparently cast is even more so. hope you find someone who can do it. or, JB weld and some duct tape...

out of work? what??? clay said something about you possibly moving to FL. is that so?

I sent it off with a buddy in wilkes who swears his friend can do it. I went to welding school too, but dont own a tig. I wouldent try to mig it since its a bitch to mig cast, plus its polished so it would look even worse. Its only a exhaust cross over tube so there isnt any fluid press, just dont want it too leak and increase the crank case press.
I am out of work again, helped get the dealership get back on its feet and once I had some lower payed people trained they cut me loose. Said I made to much.
We would like to move to FL, but we need to sell our house first. So for now I will be trying to find some work in the mean time. Been working on my crew cab and unfortunetly disasembling my EB. The tub and frame are shot and since I have a replacement I will be moving all the parts I need to keep over to it for now.
Perhaps once were settled I can put the floors it needs and paint it.
Keep yall posted!

Matt, that's a pisser about the job....Trust me there's no longer any loyalty from a company towards its employees in today's corporate world. Irregardless of your blood, sweat and tears on behalf of the company, you are just another resource to be used, abused and discarded at the whim of those "bean-counters" whose sole objective is to fatten the bottom line....I empathize with you because I've been there, done that, and worn that t-shirt several times over the life of my working career. In the last 40 years, I have moved my family and chased the "American Dream" from SC, NC, FL, MS, TN and finally back to NC....I thank God everyday that I have made it to the twilight years of my working career with my sanity intact. For the past year and a half I've been able to put the stress and strain of that roller coaster ride behind me and enjoy my time away from work............. Here's to you, best of luck in you job search!! :mug: :drinkbud:
