5.0 EFI upgrades? - blazinchuck - 07-21-2011

i can get a GT40 lower/upper intake with 65mm throttle body and 19lb injectors cheap. my motor is a 1991 mustang GT 5.0 HO,bone stock with about 18k. using a A9L,RJM, and WH's shorty headers, and 2 into 1 2.5" exhaust w/ 1 flowmaster

1) can i install these parts and use the stock A9L?
2) will any of this hurt gas mileage?
3)will the air fuel ratio be way off?

i have a built 306 with a nice cam...trickflow roller cam 499/510 lift

i would eventually like to swap that cam in the 5.0 EFI and maybe upgrade the A9L to accept it...so im thinking these parts...along with GT40 heads...would be a good combo.

any thoughts from you guys would be help, thanks...Chuck

also...i think i was wrong. looks like the 5.0 cam with 19lb injectors already so i guess im looking at swapping intakes only

i can only recommend what i did with the Explorer swap. GT40 factory upper/lower. The A9 works fine with it. You will have to modify the IAT sensor location, and probably lengthen the wires for the IAB and TPS. I ended up running a 70MM MAF that Viper recommended on classic. I think I got it from a 94 Town Car (can't recall for certain- it has been a while). The stock Explorer MAF isn't compatible with the A9 computer. Your stock 91 should have 17lb injectors. The Explorer comes with 19lb injectors, hence the bigger MAF. I used a stock Explorer intake elbow with the IAT sensor in it. The stock Explorer lower intake does not have a hole for the IAT, but you could drill/tap it for one.

Don't know about mileage. Probably won't be much different. No compatibility issues that I have run across. If you are using GT40 heads, you'd probably have to get a 96 or 97 only 5.0 explorer. The 98 like mine has P heads, but I am running the stock Explorer manifolds and have been very happy with them. No clearance issues w/a C-4 behind it, but I am running a floor shifter. They do appear to have similar outlet locations to the BC Broncos headers, which are supposed to fit everything.

Regardless, all of it you should be able to source used or from a boneyard for cheap. I am a big fan of the Explorer serpentine setup as well.
