Ignition switch?? - jollygrngiant - 08-30-2011

Well, I just replaced my ignition switch a couple days ago b/c almost every time I would go to cut it off, my bronco would stay running. And tonight when driving to the gas station, I went to get out and cut the bronco off, sure enough....it kept running!! WTF!! I did some research and talked to chuck, chuzie, etc..and they all agreed that I should replace that switch. And that should fix the problem. But, it didn't!! So....I'm stuck in a predicament.

Your thoughts as to what I should try next.........

Hmmm. Remind me again, are you carb or EFI? What exactly did you replace, the entire ignition switch assembly, right? I hate to say it like this, but you replace the part behind the dash that the wires plug into, right? Sad sorry.

Carb! Yes, I replaced the "electrical" part of the ignition behind the dash. Not the part with the keys. Its got me dumbfounded. I'm not the best when it comes to electrical either. Weird thing is, it never did this when I DIDN'T have my D.U.I distributor. But I figured the ignition hadn't been replaced in the life of the Bronco(32 yrs)

I thought the DUI did away with the control module?

Ignition switch?? - broncomatt - 09-01-2011

Gonna have to explane what your running. It realy sounds like something is back feeding power to the dist. If the dist is a DUI it should not have any other modual. Give us the brake down, this sounds interesting.....

We hit it with a meter the other night and could not duplicate the problem. The 12v run signal is working as advertised. Brian is carrying a meter around so the next time it happens he can test to see if the 12v run signal is present or not with the key off. This will at least give us a direction to go in for troubleshooting.

Yea Robert, you're right. It does do away with the control module. I had a brain fart the day chuck told me he would bring 2 spare modules:banghead:

Its only stayed running 1 time since the meeting. And of coarse I didn't have the meter with me. I'll keep ya'll posted

Well your bronco gave my bronco some kind of disease. Now mine keeps the starter running even after it is started. 3 times now I have had to jump out and disconnect the battery cable to prevent the starter from destroying itself and the flywheel and killing the battery.

I changed the relay and now i have to change the ignition switch when i get back in town.

THANKS A LOT!!!
