the shock thread - blazinchuck - 02-14-2012 this is carried over from classic...trying to find a less expensive bilstein or rancho 9000x adjustable, or nitrogen shocks(not fooling with hydro shocks again) plus these front belong to bart anyhow. ok, i took some time today to re-measure things...plus it also help, that the county scrapped/cleaned the famous front ditch for more droop....of coarse;D front shocks- ride height-23.250" compressed length-17.5"(still had maybe 1.5-2" up travel) extended length-29"(with shock removed, it measured 31",so maybe 33" to be safe for a total extended length) rear shocks- ride height-20" compressed length-14.750"(shock bottoms out) extended length-24"(i could only measure 24" at the rear, but for some reason...that was all i got for drop today. i know ive seen 30" before.wasnt even giving the shackles a work out today.) EDIT: the last time i flexed the rear out, i did get 30" and the shackle was almost perfectly inline with leaf spring. but, that was the james duff 3.5- 11 leafs. i swapped them out the some WH 3.5-11 leafs...these seem to carry more load without squatting. i just need to pull all the bushings out ans show them some grease love lol8-) here are some pics for your viewing pleasure the shock thread - blazinchuck - 02-14-2012 so it looks like a 17/33" shock for the front, and maybe a 12.5/30" shock for the rear the shock thread - broncosbybart - 02-14-2012 Looks like she flexes out pretty good! Those numbers are going to be tough. My $0.02 is for a set of Bilstein 5150's in the front and 5100's or 5125's in the rear. Might be a bit soft with the valving (255/70), but that is the firmest choice you'd get. I'd do a 12" shock in front and a 10" in the rear. You get that Bronco lean issue figured out? Edit: just read your thread on classic. You aren't going to find any nice shocks for under $100 each I like the Bilsteins because they are a monotube instead of the standard twin tube design. the shock thread - chuzie - 02-14-2012 Is there a standard calculator for length and application? the shock thread - broncosbybart - 02-15-2012 Not that I am aware of. The extended and collapsed lengths are what I go by. Bilstein charts are available online, as are most others. the shock thread - blazinchuck - 02-16-2012 back to the top. i have to rancho 9000xl's coming for the front 13" travel still need to rears, but i think i have to do a shock hoop or something...im not wasting my time with a bolt in shock that only provides 7-8 travel. heres a great shock list http://www.gorancho.com/catalog.phpgo here...and download the PDF file **2010 - 2011 Master Catalog Supplement (Specification Chart)** the shock thread - chuzie - 02-16-2012 duffs sells a great inboard crossmember!! the shock thread - broncomatt - 02-16-2012 I'll agree with Charles, but before deciding what valving I would want to know the weight of the truck. Front and rear axle if possible. To get the travel you want in the rear you will need a hoop or duff bar. Thats why mine come threw the floor to the cage. The prices on remote res shocks have come down and you can change your valving to meet your needs. Just a thought. the shock thread - blazinchuck - 02-16-2012 chuzie Wrote:duffs sells a great inboard crossmember!!i had WH's inboard set up for yrs on FBG...but i couldnt run exhaust the way i wanted, couldnt run traction bar, etc. rather not do that again broncomatt Wrote:I'll agree with Charles, but before deciding what valving I would want to know the weight of the truck. Front and rear axle if possible. like i mentioned...i got these for the front. completely adjustable. should be able to firm the ride/handling up no problem the shock thread - blazinchuck - 02-21-2012 got my new front shocks today...took it for a quick ride, seems nice. ill know more after a longer ride. |
