my dads 99 Ford Ranger motor took a dive - Crawdad - 08-27-2012

I gave my dad a 99 Ranger 4x2 a year ago. A couple of weeks ago the the motor got too hot and a week later it locked up after replacing the radiator. We are looking at replacing the motor, but only one of 3 different 3.0 V6 will work??? He likes the great gas mileage so a 302 is not option. Does anyone have any idea where one can be found? Thx in advance!

Have you considered a V8?

Try car-part.com, they will give you salvage yards close to you with one for sale.
It is likely that only that 3.0 will work, mostly due to the injection system and wiring.
You could go with the v8 but its a not a easy swap and can run hot.
For a daily driver I would just drop a used motor in.

Yep, I mentioned a v8 swap but he wont get the 28 mpg he was getting before. Just hoping to find a wrecked 99 with the engine that will work. Thx guys!
