Nick H and I are pondering on it. Yes it is a holiday weekend, so most of you probably have plans, but if you are up for it, post up!

We usually meet at the outpost at 9am.

Nick and I made it out there. I'm still picking dust out of my nose. Really dry but all the trails were in good shape.

For Dutch John, we set the hay bales in place, did maintenance on the stream crossings, tightened up the big log stream crossing, and picked up trash. Overall, there wasn't much trash out there. Quite a refreshing change!

We even rode sawmill, which I hadn't done in at least a year. Enjoyed it. The only trail we didn't hit was the Chucks demise trail.

Those hay bales were still sitting where we left them in April?

So how do we go about renaming a trail? I like the sound of "Chuck's Demise"

Yeah, the hay bales were where we left them. Adopting a trail is just that. We are responsible for it. I don't like how it sounds either, but I'll do what I can to have a place to wheel.

So, if any of you has the opportunity to help out, it is much needed.

As for renaming the trail, I dunno. Probably like- never mind. If you threw enough money at it, it might happen...

Never been to uwharrie so I dunno what's involved in trail maintenance. I'm sure some future trips though phoneman and I wld be willing to lend labor.

Trail maintenance right now consists of maintaining our trail Big Grin

Ok, the biggest things we usually encounter are the stream crossings. A few have log 'bridges' and the others are rock armored. These have been the main focus of our efforts. Otherwise, trash clean up is always needed. Other projects include clearing downed timber, cleaning out the drainage ditches, and fixing split rail fence as needed. Nothing is overly hard, as we don't have the man power or machinery to do big tasks. The govt contracts those jobs out.

The work days are fun and generally not militant. The winter work days when the park is closed (Jan-March) get a large turn out and we get a lot of stuff done. The summer is very weakly attended. Fall and spring work days are generally good because the weather is pleasant. Work days are usually the 3rd Saturday of every month and go from 9am-3pm at the longest. When we get a priorty thing that must get taken care of, I'll announce it and plead for help (more so than usual).

Also, if you make it out to our Nov URE run, we do work on that Sunday. It'll give you a good idea for what all goes on. It is pretty low key.
