Need PC help - bucketobolts - 08-11-2008 Is there anyone on the board that can help me out with some PC tech? I use the Mozzilla Firefox browser and have had no troubles at all. Well here about the last 3 weeks I've been getting a "can't find address" error. I've noticed that AOL browser has reloaded itself on my tool bar. I believe it is interfering with my browsers. I can't even get Windows Explorer to work dependably. I had trouble with AOL eating memory a couple years ago and uninstalled it. Now its back and I can't figure out how to get rid of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Need PC help - snipes243 - 08-11-2008 You wouldn't happen to be running zone alarm firewall. cause if you Microsoft screwed them over with on of its security patches causing loss of internet. let me know if that is what its is cause I know how to fix it. Need PC help - bucketobolts - 08-11-2008 I don't have that firewall. I found this prefetch file: AOLDIAL.EXE-203175d9.pf It was created was created 07/29/08, about the time I started having troubles. It seems to be accessed and up dated every time I log on to the net with either Firefox or Explorer. Almost like spyware? But SpyBot has not notified me of any changes. Need PC help - snipes243 - 08-11-2008 I googled it looks like ur right some kinda spyware. sorry I not sure what to do. Need PC help - chuzie - 08-11-2008 Run spybot, adaware, and ccleaner. if they do not fix the problem I would download HJT and post the result into a forum like bleepingcomputer.com to seek help. They are pretty good about finding those pesky items. AOLDIAL is not spyware. You have another issue. Try disabling the add-ons in your browser that you do not need and see what happens. Need PC help - bucketobolts - 08-11-2008 I disabled my add-ons and spybot shows no results. Have yet to down load adaware or ccleaner. I just don't know what caused the AOL dialer to pop back up on my too bar? I uninstalled as much of the crap as I could about 2 years ago and have had absolutely no problems till now. I was told it that it is nearly impossible to get rid of AOL after it has been installed. Need PC help - chuzie - 08-11-2008 Here is ccleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/download/downloading Here is adaware http://dw.com.com/redir?edId=3&siteId=4&oId=3000-8022_4-10045910&ontId=8022_4&spi=bc6727125e12c5e6105af236237ae7e6&lop=link&tag=tdw_dltext<ype=dl_dlnow&pid=10844457&mfgId=69274&merId=69274&destUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.download.com%2F3001-8022_4-10844457.html%3Fspi%3Dbc6727125e12c5e6105af236237ae7e6%26part%3Ddl-ad-aware Make sure you update both and then scan. If you still have the problem get HJT http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/hijackthis/HiJackThis.zip but make sure you read the info to install it here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/hijackthis.php that site will also help to decipher what is going on with your OS from the HJT log created. You will have to become a member of the forum but it is free and they really are helpful. Make sure you follow protocol though. Need PC help - bucketobolts - 08-11-2008 Alright I downloaded those two. I'll see if I can find anything before I download the HJT. Thanks again Need PC help - chuzie - 08-12-2008 You "do it" for a living? Lucky dog! :hysterical: Need PC help - bucketobolts - 08-12-2008 Still happening every once in a while. Gubni, alright if I give you a call tomorrow afternoon? |
