Honda rant
#1
My civic was recently in a wreck and all 4 motor mounts broke. Changed 3 of the 4 in about an hour.

The fourth took me 3 hours! It has be quite some time since I cursed that much under a vehicle, but it tested my patience. I don't know why those little Japanese folks think the only people who work on their vehicles are gnomes. Further, why would anyone design a consumable part into a system such that it is almost impossible to remove?

Honda did the estimate for the insurance company. They tried telling me a bunch of sensors were bad and I had a slew of other parts that were damaged.

Needless to say, I took it home and found no codes related to their suggestions nor did I find any mechanical damage other than the motor mounts.

The kicker was my timing belt. Looks like it jumped a couple teeth in the wreck and was causing some serious power issues. Any dope can hook a Honda up to an EAU and see the correlation between cam sensor and crank sensor. Not these idiots!

I replaced the timing belt and buttoned her back up.

Bottom line, my civic runs like a champ and i fixed it for $300 not $3,000. Honda service techs = worthless, Honda design = annoying as hell

Rant over.

glad you got it fixed, nothing worse than be given false bs diagnose...especially if you were really on a mission for a long time, and she had no choice but to go to honda and pay honda. glad you were able to stop the SECOND train wreck before it was too late.

About any newer vehicle is that way. They all suck to work on. I bought my wife's car under warranty. When the warranty runs out we will get something else. It seems that the manufacturers are trying to make it so that you have to go to the dealer for service.

Was this the Honda that was gently pushed through the garage door?

So that is how the story morphed? It was the third vehicle in that particular collision.

Glad you got the belt figured out, hate that you put those sensors in for nothing. If you wanted something simple to work on you should have bought her a bronco!
