Well, there is that option. I looked into the same thing a while back for a custom pontiac ventura I built for shows. Allstate assured me they would do a better job, with the appraisal I had done. Luck had it...I never had to file a claim. However, the teenager that bought my car was hit head on by a drunk driver. He came out ok, minus a bunch of cuts from glass, but the ventura was DONE. When I sold the car, I provided every receipt it took to build the car. They had the car was appraised one more time after the wreck. They gave him the car, and paid back about 6-7K. I spent an easy 10k in the car...I think that was more than far.
