I wanted to use the angle iron to keep the shocks as close to the body and away from the tires as I could. A tube would have added at least another 1.5" toward the tire. As it sits right now the upper mount is as close to the inner fender as I can get it.
Got a little more work done on it.
Chris at Mars Fab used some dimensions I gave him and CNC plasma cut out a bracket for a rear support ring for the transfer case. It turned out perfect and only needed a little cleaning with the flap disc. I cut a slot in the top of it to act as a pinch point and welded two sleeves to the top and ran a bolt through them. The lower part got some DOM tube and a set of poly bushings and inner sleeve for a through bolt.
Then I fabbed a cross member to mount the ring to. I think I will make the traction bar mount to the same crossmember when I get that far.
While I was there, I got the shifter for the low range planetary on the transfer case hooked up to check the fit and function.
