Been busy flying and wrenching lately so haven't had a chance to post what I've been up to. I only have time to chime in on occasion and make sarcastic remarks.
Before NovRun (sore subject still), I was working on a new cooling system that would give me a cool engine both on the highway and on the trail. The stock explorer fan only allowed for good city and highway driving but always left the engine hot on the trails. I installed a volvo fan and shroud to replace the explorer fan. The fan was great but my temps on the highway were 210-220 in cool weather! Turns out the volvo shroud was too restrictive and reduced air flow at high speeds.
My solution was to mount the volvo fan between the radiator and the grill thus removing the need for the restrictive shroud. To fit this monstrosity in such a small space, I had to relocate the lower radiator support between the mounts and move the radiator aft, toward the engine about an inch. The highway test proved much better. With the fan on high, my temps held at 195 and with it off, 210. That is acceptable, but I was looking for more. Added the explorer mechanical fan and shroud and my highway temps stay at 180 with the volvo fan off.
The volvo fan is going to supplement the explorer fan in extreme situations where the explorer fan fell short previously. A temp switch set at 210 will initiate the volvo fan but I set up a 3-way toggle to allow for full control with temp override ON, temp sensing OFF, and full automation.
Additional testing is necessary, but I think I found a winner with this explorer / volvo fan combo.
--------------------
To make room for the volvo fan , I had to relocate my trans and steering coolers from the grill. The trans cooler is back under the passenger seat with a 10" electric fan and the PS cooler is still out of the loop until I find a new home for it as I want to keep the area behind the driver headlight clear for a second battery. Also moved my huge fuel accumulator back to the driver firewall which forced me to make slight bracing mods to the hood for clearance.
--------------------
Installed a accessory port in my tuffy along with a new LED dome light.
--------------------
Started plugging the plethora of bolt holes that have accumulated in the wheel wells and floors.
--------------------
Installed a 21" fire truck horn and attached it to my OBA system with an electric valve. This sucker is LOUD!!!
--------------------
I know I have done other stuff, but lost track.
