if it was a detroit why does it act like it is open. will it behave differently under a load like a lock-rite? are you going to keep it in there and see what happens?

Well it says in the right up that it will act like an open carrier under no power ... when power is applied it LOCKS ... lets hope and pray ...

Quote:x2 that is a detroit locker. You can see in your middle pic a little bit of a yellow coil spring inside. The factory LSD (trac-loc) you would see a side gear, no spring.
Yours must be broken or jammed up, not unheard of.

Sorry bud, just saw this. Been working in the yard a bunch.
It looks like a detroit, it will allow the axles to spin oposit when not under a load.
If you have it in the axle, you should be able to spin the drive shaft and have the axles lock up. They usually have a wratchety feel to them when there unlocked.
Hope that helps.

ok, i talked with eaton today. load or no load...i detroit will not allow the other tire to turn opposite. if thats the case-its not a detroit. i just jacked it up again, and it is a detroit, it ratchets(very softly) and will lock up. i guess this one is worn pretty good. i can get new side gears from eaton and rebuild it too. so this is really good news and yes Robert-what a bonus!!!

a detroit locker for sure and they will not allow the opposite tire to ever rotate backwards. will make noise but not a problem.
