I have run every version you can think of, including just electric fans. I have some flex-alite and others. All came from summit.
Keep in mind pusher fans are not as good a pullers. The fan just is not as strong pushing as it is pulling. The best results I had came with several 10"fans that moved 950cfm.
There have been a few write ups out there that used stock fans from other cars. The one flaw I see with most of those is that there not thin enough to fit between the grill and radiator support. Most of the ones you can get at summit will.
I have delt with several cooling problems and have found multiple soultions, so dont hesitate to clarify your spicific problem. I may have found a soution to it.

In the past, I have run stock mechanical fans pulling with a good shroud. At low speed/ hot summer idle it wasn't enough on an AMC 360 v8.

I ended up adding a Geo Metro pusher fan to the front. Low AMP pull and decent CFM.

I got 2 puller fans on mine. I love them. Everythings been great, but lately I've overheated for no reason. Get out and see that my fans aren't running. Don't know whats goin on. Guessing its my relay messin up. I'm wantin to go back to the mechanical, but I don't have my shroud anymore. Plus, I'm not one to mess with electrcal. Mine is wired from my +battery post. Probably shoulda put it on a fuse box or some10.

i bought a 16 in spal fan to use instead of the mechanical one.. i was gonna use as a pusher fan being there is no room for it as a puller...will it hurt to modify the upper radiator mounts to lean the top of radiator back about 1 to 1.5 inches so that the elec fan motor will fit between grill and and radiator core?
