I'm having trouble with my HVAC in my bronco. No matter what setting I put it in, only the floor vents work. I took it into the shop and they said I need to take it to a body shop because the dash has to com eout. Does that sound right? Also, is there something I can do myself to fix it? Problem is, I dont know where to start. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

a technical service manual would be helpful. they have troubleshooting trees for all that weird stuff.

looking at your avatar, im guessing your talking bout the FS bronco. we have a 87F150 as a work truck...it had a similar problem. some of those heater and vent controls were cable and vacuum controlled. when i took ours apart, i found the cable for the dash vents had a broken piece of plastic...so i used a zip tie to hold the plastic and cable together allowing me to select dash vents...otherwise...everything went to the floor.

its not hard to check and fix, just take the time to remove the heater/ac control panel...then you will see how things work. HTH,Chuck

Could it also be something with the heater core? I know in my durango when I had to replace my heater core (9 hours and a case after) I got everything back together and when I was hard on the gas, the air blew from the vents, to the defrost, to the floor until I let go. I guess on of the vacuum lines was not put back on properly. This probably has nothing to do with your problem, but better than nothing!
