Good thing you got it shut down and hauled home before incurring more damage.

The volume knob on your radio. It fixes everything.

Stroker time!!

So as it turns out this will be a full overhaul, new seats, valve guides, crank, cam, bearings, rings, lifters, timing gears,
distributor, water pump, flex plate, hoses and all seals. Found a great machine shop, still involved with racing and able to go all
on the heads.

I considered going that route when I got it all torn down. But the original build was what I really liked. I built that motor 18 years ago
with the help from a buddy's machine shop. It was done old school, A 68 block, 66 289 heads, bored 40 over, clevland valves, ported heads
crane roller rockers with guide plates and special springs. When all said and done I could safely rev up to 8000 rpm!
Dutcher's machine shop dubbed it a shelby clone since it was similar to the 289 he put in the colbra.
At first I wasn't sure if it was all savable, but I got lucky and found another machine shop near me that does drag racing engines.
We found many other problems as we went, bent flex plate, bad lobe on the cam, had to clearance the piston skirts, heads had to be reworked.
I also found some noisy bearings in the water pump(edelbrock) and dist. So those have also been replaced with upgraded parts.
It is degreed and reassembled, now its back in and the break in procedure done. I will finish changing out the fluids tonight and hope to
have it tuned and ready to drive later this week.
I did also have to repair the ps pump bracket, it had broke a bolt off when this all happened. I replaced the bolt but the threads were
damaged so I had to make a new mount yesterday.
I also found some other items that had broke over the last sand run (broke exhaust hanger, window washer pump broken out of tank) that will
be fixed as well.
More pics to come....

...so was thinkin' about the 289 rev to 8k as I spun mine up to 6200 yesterday......even though the cam runs out at 5400!! Those short strokes spin up fast!!

If set up properly with roller rockers and the correct balance it will do that all day long. I have only had two quick tuning sessions and still working
out some bugs but I"m very happy with how its responding. My wife's car just blew its motor so now need it to be ready to drive.
Tonight will be a final valve adjust and another tuning session. I had a small coolant leak due to a bad hose clamp so i'm still getting all the air out.
