repair work - broncomatt - 02-11-2009 by foam do you mean the seal against the hood? Yes, it is fire retardent foam, coated on the out side with a silicone sealent (like rtv). It seals against the hood tightly. I have never had mud or water get in there. The only reason I got water in there this time was pressure washing off the hood/engine with out being carefull. The air box I just put in has a screen blocking the entrence, which is also about and inch away from the firewall. I used a new airfilter in it, its paper. I have had that truck in water deep enough to come half way up the hood before I could get out, no water got in. Some other waterproofing that I have done, rtv the dist cap down, dist boot, rtv down the valve cover breathers.
