C4 Transmission rebuild - JayT - 05-12-2009 JayT Wrote:No attachment on my last post... damn. I'll repost it later today. Here's a writeup I found a while back... I'm not sure how "good" it is, but I'm interested in feedback before I follow it during my rebuild... :popc1: C4 Transmission rebuild - chuzie - 05-12-2009 That is a good write up but by no means complete. I referenced it during my build because of the good quality pics and mod info. My primary tech data was the Haynes Ford tranny manual. The info was great though the pictures had a little to be desired. C4 Transmission rebuild - JayT - 05-12-2009 Cool. thanks, chuzie! C4 Transmission rebuild - bucketobolts - 05-12-2009 If you plan on building it yourself, get an ATSG manual for a couple of dollars. It will walk you through a rebuild and have all the torques, clearances, and ways to pressure test the tranny. C4 Transmission rebuild - Timstrk - 05-12-2009 Sorry to hijack this thread but very pertinent to whats going on here. Is there an adjustment that will keep a C4 from jambing in park after it rolls even a little bit? Friend has a 74 Bronco that has left him, son, and daughter stranded in park on occasion and can't figure out why its doing it. Have to push it one way or another to take the pressure off the park pawl to get it out of park. Rather inconvienent I would think. Have to push it one way or another to take the pressure off the park pawl to get it out of park. Rather inconvienent I would think. No worries. I'd like to know this too... but, I also want to say that I'm not a big fan of using the trans to hold my vehicle (DD included). When parked, put the e-brake on, then shift to "Park". When leaving, Engage trans into gear (Reverse or Drive), then release brake... Keeps pressure off trans and also keeps cable free'd up for when you really need it. C4 Transmission rebuild - broncomatt - 05-13-2009 With out checking my manual at home I dont think there is, it realy sounds like shift coller on the tranny needs adjusting. It has a bolt threw it, I put it in 1st, then loosen the bolt and make sure its in the correct place(inside the tranny the detent will set into the notch). Its hard to describe this with out pics. Tim noticed in another thread you were wishing you had compresion braking like a manual tranny. If you put in a good vavle body (art carr, b&m) they will redirect line press to increase line press, and give you firmer shifts. I have one on my c4, it makes it a true manual, if I put it in 3rd, its in 3rd and wont even drive forward. If I'm going down the highway and drop it into 2nd, you better hand on or you'll go threw the windshield. The down fall is I have to up shift for it and down shift too. Well worth it if you crawl at all. Keep in mind you will need extra cooler, something that should be put in any vehicle used off road. |
