'88 clunker - Timstrk - 08-20-2009 You need only have owned, licensed, and insured it for 1 year. To get the $4500 the new car has to: get 10mpg better, '84 or newer along with the above. For $3500, the only other option, is 4mpg better and all the rest. For a new truck the numbers are laughable, for $3500 the new truck must get 2mpg better and for $4500 4mpg better than the old ones. There is no $1500 or $2000 or whatever. Only $3500 or $4500. They kept the plan the same and only 2% of the claims made by dealers have been paid by the government. The money is there but the dealships have 31 pages of paperwork to fill out for every car they are claiming. All of it has to be right and approved by the gov't. This is indeed who I want in charge of my healthcare!!! Tim '88 clunker - trkbilder - 08-21-2009 I've decided to keep 'ole Red!! I bought a used Toyota Corolla LE. It's a 2004 with only 54,700 miles and clean as a pin. I talked the guy down to $8500. It has leather,ps,pb,air, tilt, cruise, moon roof, pdl, remote entry, good tires and only one small door ding. The man says he averages 32 mpg. even though it's an auto. I knew I just couldn't part with 'ole Red! It is too nice a unit to crush and besides I got a lot more for a lot less. All of this has worked out but I do appreciate you guys input. Oh yea, the clunker program ends on Monday!! :xyxthumbs: '88 clunker - trkbilder - 01-27-2010 I was looking back through some old posts and stumbled across this thread. I've learned a lot since then that makes me glad I didn't do the "cash for Clunkers" program. 1 of the biggest kicks in the pants is that if you take any of this money, $3500 or $4500, it has to be counted as income on your '09 taxes. You don't gain a thing but you do get to pay more taxes. 2nd you have to keep your newer unit for at least 2 years before you can trade it again. (I'm not real sure about this one.) And there was something else but I can't remember what that was. ( one of the luxuries of being 65 yrs. old!! LOL) Anyway, this was a bad deal all around. Thank God for unanswered prayers!!! :xyxthumbs: |
