DWB Build Thread - DirtyWhiteBoy - 09-01-2012 well finally got a day off to work on sick engine. This one kept fouling plug on cyl#2 so tore it down and found blown head gasket, no wonder the guy I got it from said it had a miss. So last night buttoned everything down Today I wil adjust them and maybe take in for a spin. DWB - DWB Build Thread - broncosbybart - 09-01-2012 pics are a bit blurry, but it looks like you have roller tips on those rockers. anything else done to the engine? that is a blown head gasket, for sure! did you check the surfaces with a straight edge and feeler gauge before install? DWB Build Thread - DirtyWhiteBoy - 09-01-2012 I bought the engine for a guy who took it out of his 32 plymouth really nice ride. he went with a 350/350 set-up. This guy had hemi's on stand sitting around in his garage, he's looking for cars to put them. I found it to be a 1968 302 block with 289 heads. really clean but blowed head gasket. I didnt think of putting a straight edge on the head. But if it blows again that will happen. B4 I put it in the EB I installed new timing chain and gears, oil pump & pick-up..Guess I am rushing it but I hate to see it sit. Still have to service the C4 but it shifts good. Also need to add a tranny cooler... DWB Build Thread - DirtyWhiteBoy - 09-02-2012 Test ride went well 302 performed very good. I know the initial timing should be 6 BTDS but will adjust to 7-8 to see difference would like the tranny to shift not so quickly. I am open to any suggestion. Also will be re-installing the distributor that came with this engine has MSD E-spark with a Mallory coil. I have read that they recommend original plug gap settings, but with more spark cant you increase the gap? What are the benefits? DWB Build Thread - blazinchuck - 09-02-2012 you can go up on plug gap but i wouldnt go much. more spark could burn better...but only if you have a really good coil i think. good job on the test run!!! i know your getting excited now DWB Build Thread - DirtyWhiteBoy - 09-03-2012 Tried messing with the timing, 6 BTDC is the spot. buttoned up a lot of stuff under the hood. Well pleased to have it back on the road..Now got to service the C4 next pan gasket is leaking. DWB Build Thread - DirtyWhiteBoy - 09-23-2012 Went for a little ride both days this weekend, had to do some minor adjustments but well pleased with the engines performance, the C4 shifts out really good but still need to service it and add a cooler. Hope to be able to join in on a little fun one day on the trails but got to get the reliablity thang and a few other details worked out first. Tim (DWB) DWB Build Thread - DirtyWhiteBoy - 10-03-2012 Well finally got to the auto parts and order tranny filter kit, and cooler. insatlled the cooler last night and now to hook up the line. if I am not mistaken the botton line is the return to the transmission. Not a lot of room for the hose to slip over the line because the line -nut wont slide back far enough (bend in the line) So I'm thinking about removing the alternator and cutting the line about 3-4 inches back and then route the return from the cooler.(Of course reinstall the Alt) Previuos owner wrapped the tranny lines that came near headers with header wrap. (Any thoughts about rerouting the lines using hose instead of the metal lines? thinking about trying to get then as far away as possible from heat source?) Or has someone found a better way... Thanks Guys Tim (DWB)I'm just a Dirtywhiteboy Kit shoudll be in tomorrow so this weeknd might be the time to DWB Build Thread - DirtyWhiteBoy - 10-07-2012 Installed transmission filter and gasket, hope this cure the leak. wiped pan clean and magnent. No burnt smell from fluid but pan a little dingy. And as usual another item appeared I guess in never ends but heck its fun work anyway. Need heater-core replaced and thats another saturday in the shop. One step at a time Tim DWB Build Thread - blazinchuck - 10-07-2012 Good to hear, hope the leak is fixed.
