That is a weird one Chuck. Usually the engine will run hotter during no airflow, vs full airflow. What rad are you running? Water pump? Could the lower hose be collapsing on itself? Let us know how you make out.

Stock rad, explorer pump, not sure on lower hose collapsing ...how would I tell that?

At higher rpms the lower hose can colaps due to restriction (or strong suctionin the cooling system. Hold the rpm around 2000-2500 once warmed up.
Barts right, it isnt normal to not cool when driving. Its a long shot but could the fan be turning the wrong direction?

no...its a thread onto water pump deal. i guess the fan to clutch could be...but no reason that should be wrong-came off stock explorer and colls like a cucumber 40 mph or less

At highway speed you are relying on ram air to cool radiator rather than the fan. Seal up all your gaps and get the flashing installed on the upper support and I promise you will see a change.

I have that big 8274 blocking half my grille and I never get above 190 on the interstate in the middle of summer.

BTW, the eec will retard the timing 2 degrees once you hit 195.

Show me this flashing you plan on putting around the shroud?

I will take a pic when I get home. I have simple angled roof flashing that sets in the top gap between the grill and the core support. Goes all the way across with a gap in the middle for hood latch stuff. Keeps air from going over radiator.

The addition of foam vertically just inboard of the turn signals will also help.

Also...im running a hard crossover tube for lower hose...so it can't collapse

When you can post that pic of the flashing, I'm not running EFI but want to keep this thing as cool as possible. Dirtywhiteboy

Got it from lowes. It is roof flashing I just cut to size.
