Gonna need help in Hickory area - broncosbybart - 06-08-2014 Things to check for with the steering are the rag joint on the steering shaft, the lower u-joint on that same shaft (at the input of the PS box), the PS box and steering column bolts, and of course all the steering linkage rod ends. The ps box could be the main culprit, but check those other things just to be sure. If you can get someone to wiggle the steering wheel back and forth while you check it, it makes it a lot easier. If you do decide to invest in a new steering setup, I highly recommend buying a new lower steering shaft with dual u-joints to eliminate the rag joint. Gonna need help in Hickory area - jdcascio - 06-09-2014 Thanks for the advice. Right now it has manual steering. Going to look under there today and have a friend wiggle the steering wheel. I'm thinking about upgrading the steering setup soon anyways with a tilt column and definitely a dual u-joint lower shaft like you recommend. Thanks for the advice! I'm already learning crap tons of stuff. Also ordered James Duff 3-speed floor shifter and TBP Family Cage. Gonna need help in Hickory area - Crawdad - 06-09-2014 I don't remember seeing where your size tires are. If they are 31s or less I'd stick with ur manual steering for the time being. I'd invest in brakes and other life saving items. But if you have a tire that's 12.5" wide then by all means go to pwr steering. But even then be prepared to spend around $500 or more depending on pumps, hoses, brackets, pitman arm, v-belt, and gear box. You may even have to notch out a section of your core support to fit a PS gear box in the place of a manual steering box. There are lots to consider. I'm in the same boat as you but just buying all the parts separately at the moment. I have to cut my core support, get an automatic steering column and upper/lower steering shafts. Gonna need help in Hickory area - jdcascio - 06-10-2014 I've already ordered the power steering and brake upgrades. The only thing I need to order is a steering column. Haven't had time to tinker with the steering to figure out anything else, but it's pretty loose. I can turn it about an inch or more in either direction before it starts to turn. It's definitely a safety issue if I want to drive faster than 50mph. Anyways, it's off to a good start. I need to invest in some tools though! haha. Gonna need help in Hickory area - jdcascio - 06-23-2014 Anyone know a welder in this area? I need to get my TBP family cage welded up so I can paint it and bolt it in. |
