the 77's upgrades - blazinchuck - 10-09-2011 any thoughts on what my best gearing option might be for this 5 sp swap? im thinking 4.56 the 77's upgrades - broncosbybart - 10-09-2011 sounds like a good choice to me. the 77's upgrades - chuzie - 10-09-2011 that is a perfect combo and will keep your RPMs reasonable at highway speed. Just don't forget about me trailing behind with my C4 at 70mph the 77's upgrades - Crawdad - 10-09-2011 I've been reading a lot about his on Classic in the last couple of weeks. There are several guys who are in the same boat as you w/ their NV3550s. They are rolling 302s, like your 77 correct? I think it really depends on what your RPM is in that 5th gear. Once you find that out you have to know if the horsepower in ur engine can perform in that band. I've waiting to find a thread using a mild 351W using that same tranny. Don't want this tranny if my 351W eats it up from pulling someone from a mudhole. My opinion if you are wanting a DD, go with 4.56s. Go 4.88s or 5.13s if you wanna have trail fun OR wanna go bigger tires down the road. I'm glad you got this tranny first so I can learn from ur mistakes!!!mokin: Either way this is going to be interesting and I wish you the best of luck. Hope it goes in easy for ya! the 77's upgrades - chuzie - 10-09-2011 Just do yourself a favor before you start running around the rocks with 4.56 and 4.01 1st gear.... upgrade to chromos and 31 spline. There is gonna be a crapload of torque hitting the ground and I really don't think the stock setup is going to put up with it. You've been down that road before. Breaking axles and joints is not a place you want to go again. the 77's upgrades - chuzie - 10-09-2011 The 302 has a max long term sustained RPM of 3200 and max intermittent RPM of 4400 which is where the 210 HP is produced. He will likely cruise around 2500 rpm which is pretty good. Crawdad Wrote:I've been reading a lot about his on Classic in the last couple of weeks. Hope it goes in easy for ya! the 77's upgrades - blazinchuck - 10-10-2011 right now im turning 2300 @ 70 mph...not sure why its lower than all the calculators, maybe the stall convertor(supposed to be a 1800 stall) then again, i can power break and make it move round 1100 rpm...so i dont know the 77's upgrades - blazinchuck - 10-10-2011 well, i checked out a couple sites...not looking good, prices have gone up since last time i bought gears/install kits:banghead: so who has the best pricing on gears/lockers/install kits?? looking for 4.56's and 9" auburn posi or detroit tru-trac the 77's upgrades - SC74 - 10-10-2011 blazinchuck Wrote:well, i checked out a couple sites...not looking good, prices have gone up since last time i bought gears/install kits:banghead: Now you see why I'm on HOLD with buying my gears and lockers.
