broncosbybart Wrote:set the engine to TDC on #1 and see if the dist. aligns with the post on the cap that goes to the #1 wire. that is a quick way to tell if it has skipped. the other thing you can do is loosen the dist and move it to advance or retard it to see if it will fire. it could be possible that your tank had crud in it that got sucked into the carb. i would check timing first before tearing it all apart.

x2 for what b3 said above....I'd definitely check using those two methods before tearing into that sucker....Personally I prefer to work smarter not harder, or as my wife says, "the lazy arse way" of doing things....Good luck on resolving the problem Confusedcratchhe: :banghead: Confusedcratchhe: :banghead:

Have you pulled the valve covers to check the rockers and push rods?

If the timing chain was stretched enough to jump time, it would be very difficult to get a reading on the balancer. The marks would appear to dance back and forth.

But if it has a plastic cam gear, it could have stripped. Watching the rotor button for erratic motion while cranking is tale-tell sign.

i pullled valve covers before starting on front end. everything inside looked good so far. timing gears arent a major deal but just pia.

:banghead::banghead::banghead:Confusedcratchhe:Confusedcratchhe: i dont have a friggggin clue!!

i got fuel, and plenty of fire but no run...timing marks line up on gears, cam gear in good shape, dizzy gear good no broken. correct firing order...i have been over everything at least twice....

Another Fine 69 - firefighter2134 - 12-15-2010

so after doing a lot of head scratching im gonna put it back together and see what happens..who knows?

Another Fine 69 - firefighter2134 - 01-02-2011

ok its back together and i got to put fluids in it and see what it will do. never did find anything so it may still be in carb. we will see. will post results later. hope for the best...

Another Fine 69 - broncosbybart - 01-02-2011

let us know. hopefully you will at least get it to fire off.

Another Fine 69 - firefighter2134 - 01-02-2011

well found the culprit!! turned out to be a coil that was breaking down... spun it over with timing light and no light.. then had light changed coil and it fired right up.. man i feel like an arse after taking engine halfway apart...lesson learned... so far 2011 is good to me..got 2 broncos running at the moment..horrayyy
