steering wheel question - chulo2004 - 10-12-2008

hey guys whats going on. i recently installed a new steering gear box on the bronco last week and was wondering why i still have play in the steering wheel. i thought by putting in a new box that the play would go away. also whenever i make a turn, the wheel does not straighten out by its self. is there something i forgot to do or do i need to check on something else.

Check your ball joints and tie rod ends. These parts can have play in them also. Jack the front of the truck up and have someone turn the wheel slowly left and right. See if anything not your steering box moves.

Do you have any lift? Sounds like your castor may be out also. That will keep the wheel from returning after a turn. Also check the track rod bushings and mounts. If they are loose they will make the front end sloppy also.
