Engine and transmission replacement from a Explorer - Shark 30 - 04-07-2010 I'm looking on doing a conversion on my 77 Bronco and heard that the Explorer came with a V-8, auto and transfer case that can be put in my rig. Any help will be appreciated. Dan Engine and transmission replacement from a Explorer - shon - 04-07-2010 hit the tech thread and search "5.0 conversion" you should get alot of the basic info there. bodylift , fuel tank conversion(return line for the efi pressured li nes) etc. iirc the explorer 5.0's have the gt40 intakes. also get as much with the donor as possible , wiring , fuel rails and injectors , computer etc. Engine and transmission replacement from a Explorer - chuzie - 04-07-2010 the engine is a go but i am not sure about the transfer case. i seroiously doubt it. the engine is nice because of the extra clearance you get with the mechanical fan from the radiator and the PS pump setup too. Engine and transmission replacement from a Explorer - Bighorn - 04-26-2010 The engine is good combo. Look for 96 Explorer, they have the three bar gt40 heads versus the gt40p heads. You will want to switch over to a mustang harness and computer to run the motor. The tranny is a 4r70w. great transmission, but you will need a baumannater computer to run the tranny. http://www.becontrols.com/ The transfer case is a no go. You can adpat the 4r70w to the d20 with an AOD kit from AA or use a ford np205 or atlas as a direct bolt on. |
