Axle / Gear gurus help!! - SC74 - 03-27-2012 I'm finally ready to buy my gears and lockers for the crawler but have one problem before ordering. I bought a used d60 5:13 r&p that I can't figure out what it is so I can't order the right carrier for what axle? It is a Precision Gear and the ring gear is stamped 60D 513 R. The pinion is stamped 60D 513 P. My first assumtion was that R meant RING and P meant Pinion - but that would be too easy and it does not. I have contacted Precision 3 times and finally got someone today who actually cared and tried to help. Here's my problem... the R means REVERSE which would work for my front HP 60, but every tech article I read says that the gears should rotate counter clockwise for a reverse ring gear (and vice versa for a standard cut)- mine are clockwise (like a standard cut) cratchhe: Precision swears that the R is REVERSE and that it doesn't matter which way the spiral is. When I got home I pulled my front diff cover and sure enough the stock ring gear is counter clockwise making me believe that the R does not mean Reverse. They say that the P on the pinion means "Pro series" which is for drag racing applications. In the front that would be good, but not so sure for the rear cratchhe: I'm tempted to buy both r&p's now and scratch this one I have, but then again it's an expensive set that I'd love to take advantage of and not have to buy another. IF it will work in the rear, I wonder what carrier size to get. Precision says a 4.10 and down, but I can't rely on their info much now. Here are a few pics of the ring gear and the stock one in the front diff now. No idea why it is labelled as reverse. Also, it had a 4 series Detroit bolted to it. So, it should work in your rear axle with a 4 series carrier (non-thick). I was told it was a Ford D60 out of an F250. The front was a HP44 axle. Axle / Gear gurus help!! - SC74 - 03-28-2012 Thanks for taking the time to go back and look Bart. 4 series carrier - 4.10 and numerically down carrier? That is what PG is saying and their site says, but that would mean it is a thick gear, right? Axle / Gear gurus help!! - SC74 - 03-28-2012 On the way out the door this morning I measured the ring gear in my front housing. It measures 1" and the Precision ring gear I have is 1-1/4". How would the thick gear fit in the smaller carrier like what I have in my stock set now? |
