Hard to say. My s10 did something similar. Turns out the ring gear on the flywheel was press fit and the 'fit' no longer fit when hot. The ring gear turned, but the engine didn't. It took a bit of figuring to find that. Take the dust cover off and see what is or isn't happening on yours while a helper turns the key.

pull your starter off and inspect the teeth...you may have a bad fit like bart mentioned.

Priciate the welcome! Starter is good, almost seems like timing or not enough fuel to the block. Already changed plugs and wires, all started after tranny was rebuilt. No problem before. Also torque converter locks up in 2nd and 3rd when I give it a little more gas. Do know if that has anything to do with it.its going back in the shop next week to get my oil leaks fixed, rear main seal Etc... I will have my guy go ahead and adjust the timingany other advice would be greatly appreciated. Details to follow and some pics.

Not saying starter might be bad...saying they could have wrong flex plate, or starter could be too close to flex plate. As engine get hots...things expand.. this might be something to look at.

I have heard that the starter gets too hot obviously metal expands under heat therefore would not operate correctly therefore any ideas of what steps I should take to keep the starter cool?
