Engine help - snipes243 - 02-16-2014 So I was having issues with the intake gasket leaking pretty bad. So I decided to change it. When I was messing around with it last week I was get coolant coming out from under the intake gasket. Which I was told was common if the intake gasket wasn't properly seated. After I took the intake off I examined the ports and found a 1/8" hole in the passenger front coolant passage. It doesn't look like its suppose to be there isn't going to hurt anything or should I take the head off to be sure? Engine help - snipes243 - 02-16-2014 FYI the pictures are upside down for some reason Engine help - broncosbybart - 02-16-2014 It is really hard to see anything in the pics. Let me know if you need more info after we talked. Engine help - snipes243 - 02-16-2014 Compression test checked out ok Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Engine help - broncosbybart - 02-16-2014 I figured it would. It ran too good to have a major compression issue. When it is complete, you can also do a pressure test on the cooling system. You might be able to get a loaner tool to do it. Basically a radiator cap with a pressure pump built into it to check for pressure losses/leaks. Engine help - snipes243 - 02-16-2014 Will do I went ahead and JB welded the hole. I think it was just going to a void in the casting Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Engine help - snipes243 - 02-19-2014 Jb weld is holding. I put coolant pressure tester on it today, the gauge holds steady no leaks. Engine help - chuzie - 02-19-2014 Just saw this. Never seen a hole like that before. Luckily you were able to patch it from the inside so hopefully the pressure will hold. My concern is towards how well the JB weld is going to handle the heating / cooling cycles. Anyway, I assume this discovery was purely coincidental and had nothing to do with the leak, right? What head are they? Engine help - snipes243 - 02-20-2014 Yep just happend to see them when I was check for particles in the head. The jb weld I used is rated to 500 degrees The heads are stock truck heads Engine help - snipes243 - 02-20-2014 Got it running and mantaining temp. I think my fix worked |
